I would not have known that First Nation people still exist if not for a Lakota co-worker I had in college. He got me to go to some lectures on campus by visiting First Nation activists/educators.Eons later I was inspired to improve my education on the subject by the American soap opera Western "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman".Despite being a soap opera the writers did their homework. The writers worked in many things about indigenous history and issues into the stories. Women's history and issues too. @PaulaToThePeople I too believe that blaming people doesn't help.I also believe that facts matter.The U.N. has a report stating that the livestock industry contributes as much to the greenhouse effect as *transportation*. Those meats wouldn't be produced if _ordinary people_ were not buying it.No blame.Stating facts to inspire people to help.

@HeavenlyPossum Sci-fi fan since childhood. Fast vehicles aren't the most important measure of progress in my opinion.Maybe something like a global literacy rate or a global starvation rate. Perhaps number of ongoing wars.Sadly, for that half century, at least in the US, the progress has been about making the richest richer. Supply Side economics ( trickle down economics ), lobbying, propaganda disguised as news, etc.
