@seldo It's only a matter of time before a server gets defederated over this. Then it will be uniquely Mastodonian.

@seldo Working with Redux when it first came out was also like this. Except instead of 7 hours, it was several years of devs struggling to use it in a reasonable way before RTK came along with sane patterns. Although by that point many had started dropping it and moved on to things like react-query after realizing almost all their state was data synchronization anyway.

@seldo @collin Personally, I like react-query because the things I work on are usually just UI responding to some sort of async data synchronization. SWR is also good if you are sensitive to bundle size (although react-query is not all that much bigger). I've also really enjoyed XState for those cases where I get to work on something that really benefits from that type of robust state management. I've used it on a few projects now, and being able to visualize my app with state charts is amazing.

@lowqualityfacts Oh, the number of problems this would solve if it were true ...

@Wolven Not sure if this is a weird thing to ask, but is your thesis about philosophy and the occult that you reference in this episode available to be read anywhere?

@funnylookinhat @fugueish @MLNow @kairyssdal @kimberlyadams Marketplace has, for years now, reported uncritically about cryptocurrencies. I would not recommend them.

@Wolven This kind of analysis is not only fun to read, but is increasingly (and bizarrely) relevant as we learn just how many of the people at the heart of the AI industry appear to be in a straight up cult (referring to the TESCREAL crowd).

@futurebird As a kid in the 80s, I remember being confused about how many wars I'd hear about, and how nobody ever explained why they happened. Panama was the first one; the way it was reported was no different than a hurricane. The first Gulf War was similar. It wouldn't be until much later that I realized that most adults also did not know why these things were happening. That is what a highly centralized media environment is like.

@futurebird I honestly don't remember where I learned this stuff from because I'm old. It wasn't a book. When I was younger I managed to finagle my way into a small shop IT job and Googled my way from there. Which apparently is not so easy anymore. The short answer to your question is you need to point devices on your intranet to an internal DNS server that resolves domain names it knows and boots up names it doesn't know to external DNS servers. Which I guess is not really a short answer.

@ignova @futurebird I love how the kid is just staring at the shark fin in this picture. Even by the weird rules of this meme the parent has failed.
