@michele has been an great friend over the years, and an unmatched partner for work in getting through some incredibly hard problems. If my idea has an issue, she'll find it, and she'll let me know.Speaking of, there's @worldwise001 who knows everyone and has insight into danged near everything at whatever company she's in. Between her and Michele I've had a number of conversations on landing complex ideas.

Then there's @tenderlove who's always quick with a joke or a pun, always laughing, and always building others up. Heck, when I met him I wasn't really known at all, so I wasn't sure what to expect but despite that he made time to chat and to earlier career me that meant a lot.And @searls, he remembers everyone and every detail, always asks how folks are, and genuinely cares about how they've been doing. You can meet him once 10 years ago and he'd still know you.

As well as @fables_tales who has done so much for our community over the years in building a safe community, as well as one cursed to know the true mysteries of parse.ySpeaking of, @valerie was one of the first folks to really interact with me at my first Ruby conference when I was sure I was silly for bringing cartoon lemurs and that it'd not go over well. She was a fan early on and an amazing source of encouragement.

There's also @doodlingdev and @Minaswan who were early encouragers of all my lemur shenanigans, and frequently audience to all of my ideas whenever I was still finding my voice in the community. They've also been incredible advocates of the community and helping folks feel welcome at any event.

And you thought you were getting away @jmcharnes? Nope, no chance there. You were the one who took a shot on a no name developer for my first official conference talk. You welcomed me, introduced me to so many people, and gave me the critical encouragement I needed at that early point.

Speaking of that event, @erniemiller was another person who welcomed me openly, and through the years we've become friends and continue chatting.Of all the leaders I believe in there are very few, if any, I trust in more than Ernie. He deeply cares about folks, and does so much to make sure they're set up for success.

Then I also happened to meet @avdi there for the first time, a long time hero of mine in the community, and a life-long goal up to that point.I wanted to reach his level for so long, and to have him treat me as a friend and contemporary, and to welcome me to the community, meant the world to me at the time.We continue to chat, and I have such respect for how much he cares and stands by his principles.

The next year at that same conference I ended up meeting @jessitron, and even in a few minutes of conversation you can tell the depth of her insight, and how much she listens to and wants to understand others. She can take an idea and a casual conversation and turn it into an insight and completely reframe how you think, it's really incredible to see.

Now while Jess makes good ideas better, @kkuchta makes bad ideas worse, and I mean that in a loving way.He explores the edges and challenges what's thought to be possible, creating some of the most provoking talks that sit with you for months to years afterwards. If I ever have a bad idea I can be sure he'll take some time aside to explore it, and if it's bad enough I might see it as a conference talk some time later.

But there's more than one edge to Ruby, and I can trust that @nickschwaderer will find them. The archeologist who can explain so much of how we got here to today, what code evolved from, and a person who takes an extra deal of time to wonder and understand those in the community. He captures history to inform the present, and cares so much to hear others stories.

Though speaking of stories there are none that can match the legendary @nmeans for his ability to weave a tale and make you wonder where it's going until near the end he always manages to pull off a miraculous enlightenment moment. But to tell a story, he has to listen to the stories of others, and Nick is a man who deeply cares about others stories and supporting them.

and the always present, always listening guide who's been with the community for so many years, Pontiki / @tamouse .They've been a constant mentor and ally and staple of the community, and over years on IRC they took care of so many folks.

and @havenwood, one of my closest friends and allies over the years. You drop him into any room, literally any room, and he can make friends with everyone and walk away with so many continuing conversations. We spent years chatting at a bar across the street about career growth, Ruby, the community, and how much we were excited for the future.

Now don't think I forgot the Rails channel folks. @Ryanbigg and @sevenseacat have been helping to grow and teach the community for years through books, mentorship, community building, and so much more. When I finally got a chance to meet them in person in Australia they were just as lovely there, and just as kind in bringing their community together.

There was also @CoralineAda , and though our paths didn't cross much in those IRC days she certainly did afterwards.Coraline is indisputably a force for creating safer communities, for including others, and for accountability not just in Ruby but across so much of the industry. Her code of conduct has done so much good for so many people, and her advocacy continues to make impacts.

There was also @Schneems who I've gotten to know far better over the last few years. To say that he is a good man is an understatement. He listens, no matter who or where you are, and is always ready to help others. He invests so much in growing others, especially those who are new to the community and are just getting started.
