@CliffWade @Carl_Ingalls @mammoth We created the Mammoth onboarding flow & pointing new users to moth.social bc we concluded that (1) it's the best thing for the user (don't ask them about a server... what's that?) and (2) long term we want to have greater control over the end-to-end user experience to improve the ux. That said, I think the way Ivory offer choice is valid as well. I like to think that our approach maybe nudged Ivory, and perhaps will nudge something upstream as well.... awesome!

In fact one idea we had was that, say a user has been on moth.social for a few months, maybe we should suggest some topic/community specific servers they might want to move to. On balance, I think that’s a complicated concept to convey so I’m leaning against rn, for us doing this...

@realcaseyrollins @bart top friends is just a regular list that we provide fast access to. But we do have server-logic powered features such as personalized follow suggestions based on who you already follow and a general and a personalized for you feed (in the mammoth 2 TestFlight beta)

Ten of millions of people have tried out mastodon, but >90% couldn’t crack it: just too hard to find interesting people and conversations. Our lists give people a starting point. They show up in full firehose glory top of the screen, but in for you we add an engagement threshold

hi folks, this will be a conversation ofc. the critical thing here is to truly understand what DA is/was all about, what this community needs. prolly means the right team has at least 1 person that is a DA power user or superfan. you don’t have to have all the answers. you can just send us a paragraph with a few thoughts, or expression of interest. THIS CAN BE A CONVERSATION & we figure this out together. Thinking about doing a Discord or Zoom convo in a day or 2 to bring interested ppl together
