@kev @pete Thanks for this post, there were a couple of tools I'd not heard of. Have you tried Kirby? I'm using it to develop a site for a friend, and thinking of moving my WordPress sites to it.

@gabek Bypass Paywalls Clean? https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean I don't read the NYT but it seems to work.

@gabek @lkhrs I’m old (like Fidonet on an Amiga 500 old) and I’ve always used my real name online, because for me that was being the authentic me. It took me a while to realise that for some people, using a pseudonym was something that enabled them to be their authentic self. In my teens I was a biker (the leather jacket and motorcycle kind) and I think more than half the people I knew then used pseudonyms in real life.

@gabek @ash for British Isles != British, just think America != American - does that help?

@wolf480pl Does it really matter? I want my child to outlive me, I want the *impact* of things I make to outlive me. The actual stuff I make - bleh, who cares? I’ve never understood the obsession with preserving everything that ever appeared online.

@gabek Honestly , I'm torn. I don't use FB and I rarely ever go near the birdsite. The most interesting content I find comes from recommendation, search or general curiosity. But, the YT algorithm serves a purpose for me. I have two separate accounts with a separate subscription list on each one. The algorithm does surface some junk, but it also surfaces some really great content and creators that I've gone on to follow. I don't know if that can be replicated in a federated system.

@Vollmer If you’re not wedded to FOSS Kirby might meet your needs. I found it much easier to work with than Grav. That said, I would probably lean more toward the advice from @kev - I’ve come to realise that for all its shortcomings, it’s hard to beat WordPress for blogging.

@kev Even thinking about anything else is a problem. I’ve spent the last two years telling myself I’ll start blogging again just as soon as I’ve switched to an SSG. 🤦‍♂️@Vollmer

@kev I'll second the MX Keys Pro as a great keyboard, particularly for Mac/Win cross platform working. I also do a bit of key remapping to make things simpler - on Windows CTRL is mapped to CMD, and on Mac I use the British PC keymap so that # is in a more sensible place. @pim @RL_Dane @benjaminhollon @jppelt @mike

@kev it looks fine now. I reckon anything that fixes itself must be cache related 😁

@gabek DWeb Camp looks very Web 3.0 distributed rather than Indieweb distributed.

@kev My wife has a 2020 SE and she’s had no issues since updating to iOS 16. It’s also running fine on my daughter’s iPhone 8.

@kev we did have this issue with an iOS update once (although I don’t remember which version or which phone) and the fix was to do an iCloud backup, reset the phone and then restore from backup.

@kev would your first action as PM be to change the CMS the Downing St blog runs on?
