@mattwilcox @simon the trouble with these is they are the theory about where the Web should go, not the practice based on what actually works today. So they are useful, but alas, often can't be used as-is. I second @ryanberg 's recommendation of Heydon’s book but what works best changes frequently.

Is that a quidditch snitch in her hand? This engraving was made to sell the borders in it, & appeared in a printer’s catalogue of 1917.https://www.fromoldbooks.org/Strong-BookOfDesigns/pages/36a-banner-with-woman-and-sphere/More at https://www.fromoldbooks.org/Strong-BookOfDesigns/#artDeco #artNouveau #jugendStile #fromOldBooks #vintageEngraving #quidditch #harryPotter #GIMP #xsanePS: mention of quidditch is NOT an endorsement of the views of its inventor...

https://www.fromoldbooks.org/Bradley-EnglandsOutpost/pages/081-stocks-and-pillory/The stocks were used to imprison miscreants: people sat with their legs through the holes in the planks, locked in place. People passing by could throw things at them or steal their boots and cell phones. Stocks were last used in England in 1872.These are at Monkton, Kent.Scan processed with #Gimp_3 #stocks #punishment #fobo #vintageArt #monkton #kent #England #engraving #GIMP

https://www.fromoldbooks.org/CirclingTheYear-1870/pages/161a-bless-the-lord/This was tipped in (a loose page lightly glued along one edge) near the back of the 1870 edition of The Circling Year. Very Victorian! Newer translations of Ps. 103 use Praise the Lord, which makes more sense.Five colours, so five separate plates incl. gold - #chromolithography Scan cleaned up in #GIMP as usual.#vintageArt #fobo #lettering #Victorian #border “Bless the Lord O my Soul, and forget not all His benefits”
