       So I tested Threads for the first time yesterday and after an hour or so I concluded that I couldn't find a single good reason to use it instead of Mastodon or other Fedi-services. It felt like a mix of Instagram, Facebook and X. Might follow some people on Threads if they fully implement activitypub support that goes both ways but that's about it I think #fediverse #threads

       @aral Spot on. Problem is: Some of these companies enshittify even after you and the others PAID them for the software, without it being based on VC and with an actually viable business model for the company. Serif/Affinity and Reasons Studios being a few of the  latest (common denominator is turning to subscription models). The last few years has made me highly skeptical of almost any software company.

       Thinking about how my first computer did not even have a hard drive (an Amiga 500, the largest games were spread out over 12+ floppies) and these days I’m contemplating buying a 8 TB NAS. Don’t know how I/we ended up here. #tech #retro #computing

       @ajroach42 Does it need to be strictly FOSS? Bitwig and Reaper are the best feature wise but not FOSS, great native support though and amazing DAWs. Ardour is FOSS and good. VCV rack, Cardinal, Surge XT and Vital are some kick ass synths
