"Perl 5 development has moved to Github"http://blogs.perl.org/users/max_maischein/2019/11/perl-5-development-has-moved-to-github.htmlAlternative title: "Microsoft expands its hold over Free Software"But that apparently wasn't a discussion point.

@newt GitHub isn't a Git hosting site, though. It's a project management tool, issue tracker, social network and platform-that-every-shitty-tool-is-completely-and-bindly-dependent-on.

I was fully prepared to rant about how crap the Alita: Battle Angel movie would be, but it's actually... pretty alright. It does totally nail the cyberpunk aesthetic.

@ehmry Rather blatantly set up for sequels.

I wrote a little GTK program in OCaml in 2011. The binary I created back then still works, but I've no clue if the code still compiles today.

Why implement threaded or async network I/O when you could just as easily add a notice.

@newt That's exactly how modern email scams work nowadays, so I guess being lazy seems to work out just fine.

@parisio I very rarely use anything besides a terminal or web browser, so configuring a theme seems like a waste of time.

@bugaevc That discussion is a popular trend now. This LWN comment thread is particularly interesting: https://lwn.net/Articles/805818/#CommentsI'm personally hoping for crate bundles to become a thing to provide a stable'ish API and available as shared libraries.

@newt Don't worry you can keep copy-pasting code from stackoverflow, just use a memory safe language because it's impossible to write bugs such languages.

I've always been scared that I accidentally press enter too early while typing an 'rm -rf /var/lib/something' and end up deleting the entire /var. For some reason that's never happened.

@whom Has there been much innovation, though? I mean, I've read SciFi novels from the 70's that are far more plausible, realistic and appropiate than anything that has come from Hollywood. In terms of music styles, the creative/weird/new things from the 90's I keep discovering continue to blow my mind.
