I gripe about Go, and I may have griped about this before, but the single biggest annoyance is implicit interface implementation. I get that it can be very nice, I've used it in very nice ways. But it is possibly the single biggest source of frustration and magic I've had the misfortune of encountering all too many times.

Adventures in TLS, plaintext accounting, NGINX, and server maintenance today. I setup a local instance of hledger-web on my Pi for me and my wife. I haven't used #ledger/hledger in anger since college, so any tips would be appreciated

@rysiek glad to hear it! As a former third party Apple repairman though I can’t help but wonder how they’re going to use this “at home repair” as leverage to undermine third party repair businesses 😕. Maybe I’m too jaded

@rysiek This feels like an important note in the article > But Chamberlain notes that this still isn’t “the open-source repair revolution we’ve sought through our fight for the right to repair” because it appears to still support restrictions that require parts to be bought straight from Apple.

This is important"I think it's also important to recognize that the ability to recklessly consume is a privilege that not everyone has, and you're locking out a lot of users by only designing for the latest and greatest." - @ddevault

@amolith What kind of use-case are you looking for? School, work, biking, hiking? Also, what kind of specifications would you have? E.g. needs to fit a 15" laptop, carry 14+ liters, have many or few compartments, etcAll that being said, I've been very happy with North Face backpacks for all of the above applications.

@Truck I try to touch type often, I usually end up doing hybrid hunt and pecking though. It still doesn’t feel natural to look at the screen when I type after two years of industry programming and four years of university. I was homeschooled for primary school in the US though so perhaps it would have been taught in public school.

@Truck I use standard US layout. I think it’s partly a comfort thing, partly my fingers just aren’t accurate. I tend to typo a lot on a desktop.

@Truck it’s unfortunate that dialect marks aren’t well known how to find on the US QWERTY layout. MacOS for example makes them pretty easy to type, though you’d have to hit them on accident to find them in the first place 😔

#askfedi I've heard people discourage cloudflare fronted mastodon instances due to single-points of failure in an otherwise distributed system. Does that apply to cloud hosting as well? I want to host on my hardware but I'm not sure I want to assume that much risk.

Downside to living in a university town and not being a student: you don't get emails notifying you when they test their lock down sirens, which are nearly indistinguishable from air-raid sirens.... 😳

Finally setup a Pleroma instance at Appalachian.town. I ended up going with Pleroma because of the chat feature and because it was lighter weight than Mastodon. I haven’t gotten the correct arcanum to tell the Pleroma API to alias this account yet, but when I do that should complete my migration. I’m looking forward to getting all the ducks in a row. In the mean time, catch me at @awildthorp@appalachian.town
