@joshbressers @jerry it really depends on how you use it. I frequently use Twitter to *search* things and find the rare people who may know at bits and pieces of information I need for my work. I also use it to share my research findings (lots of reverse engineering, Windows protocols, etc). This isn't hashtag material at all - I wish for it to be fully discoverable and searchable for me and others to use as reference. Nothing beats old tweets that gave a clear answer to a specific, obscure problem. Lack of full text search in Mastodon kills that type of usage entirely. It's a nice place to chat, but quite unsuitable to properly share research findings that can easily be discovered and referred to in the future IMHO

@joshbressers @gleeda @jerry we'll need full text search one way or another, because hashtags are never going to be enough for research type of work. You can be a software developer, a security researcher, a journalist, it all comes down to full text search being too important to ignore. Don't get me wrong, I can understand that this is the way it's always been done here, but that is just not enough for me and other people who used Twitter daily in that fashion.
