@futurebird You are broadly correct because they both have low smoke points (roughly 350°F / 175°C).Sesame oil isn't much better on that metric though, so I'm mildly skeptical there, and lard or bird fat is less suitable than tallow.Your best bet is a clarified or refined oil (including refined olive oil or ghee), with refined avocado oil or safflower oil topping the list.

@futurebird Oh, I thought narcoterrorism is when you go around scaring people in their sleep as a religious practice.I should probably fix my resume.

@futurebird I mean, 侘び寂び in general, and intentional imperfections in tea bowls specifically, is older than this country. So while you certainly don't have to like it, it's a bit weird to say that *now* it's like this.

@futurebird I mean, look at these:https://duckduckgo.com/?q=15th+century+Japanese+tea+bowls&iar=images&t=fpasThat level of imperfection is in no way due to technical limitations; compare Chinese pieces from the same period:https://duckduckgo.com/?q=15th+century+chinese+tea+bowls&iar=images&t=fpas

@futurebird That part's actually surprisingly easy, so look into finding someplace to fire pieces first if you're serious.

@futurebird I do have (many) siblings and I do do this, but probably not for the reason you're thinking. I divide the food so YOU get YOUR fair share. Otherwise I eat it all too fast (which is apparently a common thing in people from large families).

@futurebird The answer is that the Arthurian Holy Grail was not originally associated with the Christian holy chalice; the Holy Grail was just a magical cup with healing powers, and the Jesus stuff was ret-conned in later. The holy chalice just inherited this pre-existing significance, and then the English colonized everybody.

@futurebird I think that for the right, it depends on the gender and political alignment of the cheater: A conservative man will be forgiven and forgotten immediatelyA conservative woman will be forgiven after public shaming and performative religiosityA liberal man will never be forgiven, but it's not a huge deal unless politically expedientA liberal woman will never be forgiven Whereas I think for liberals it matters less, and is always a problem, but somewhere in the middle in severity
