@politicalscience question for the #Marxist #Marxism theory people out there. Are employees who depend SOLEY on tips i.e. servers//bartenders proletarian or a part of the peasantry? We don’t make a wage per se, but we work the “land” that is owned by the petty bourgeois (restaurants/bars) and do our best to make as much money as we can in the time we’ve been allotted. @beckymsm @freemo you’re free to do so. Just don’t be surprised when you have trouble convincing ppl to vote Democrat. Maybe the Dems should focus less on how they can spin “business as usual” to appeal to millennials and zoomers, and focus more on actually sticking up for working people and marginalized people.

@realcaseyrollins I mean… idk if it *is* a parent’s fault is their kid ends up addicted. I was raised by two great parents, one of whom (who? whom? idk lol) is a recovering alcoholic so I was even educated about addiction from a young age. I still ended up doing percs which ofc led to fentanyl addiction. fwiw I hate Tucker Carlson, but just saying “it’s the parent’s fault” is a woefully incomplete analysis of addiction

@dierksen @mekkaokereke you’ve put into words something that I’ve been trying to articulate for ages. The second you say someone is not 100% free from racial bias, it’s like in their brain they act as if they’ve been compared to a Klansman instead of listening to what was actually said. 9 times out of 10, at least in todays day and age most of the time what’s being said is something with more nuance than “you are racist because you’re a member of a violent murderous hate group”

Don’t be fooled by the Far Right’s claims that they do what they do out of “love for their people.” They have nothing but contempt for all but a tiny subsection of the White population: those whose are as racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, ableist, antisemitic, and reactionary as they are. They’re motivated by hate. To be more specific, they are motivated by an intense fear of The Other. @julieofthespirits I read a really good thread on Twitter and it talked about how things can *feel* religiously significant, they were leaving a Passover dinner in a conservative part of the US when a cop started to follow them; they reached out to Elijah for help and the cop moved around them and pulled off. the person talked about how whether or not god actually came down and made the cop car not pull them over is kinda irrelevant, because the fact that it FEELS significant is what matters.I think alot of people are afraid to confront the fact that we’re humans and by definition we will never know *everything* so they dive into atheism as an attempt “fully understand the universe.” But that’s never going to happen, we might as well embrace that fact and live the most interesting life we can; if that means practicing Judaism or astrology or a million other “unscientific” then so be it.
