Wow I haven't seen Vox....and that's basically the rounds of all music players for macOS. None are good.

Back in KDE, home sweet home. I'd say I still prefer it on a workstation interface, macOS' interface on portable computing things (though it isn't bad on a desktop either). The big thing, I think, is app compatibility between macOS and Linux; the former has Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro, and Adobe shits, and Linux can have alternatives (Ableton via Wine, DaVinci Resolve, Boxy SVG and whatnot) and lightweight applications, but mostly shines in truly nerdy shits like development, virtualization and nerdy stuff like that as well as some creative apps.

I mean, I was having tons of fun in Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, though those are by video editors and DAWs, I'm sure Ableton (which works via Wine) can do a similar job without Apple's shit, ditto with a competent video editor. The one thing, and this can apply with Windows as well, that I think wins over Linux is uniformity; you right click on an image, it says "hey that's an image! wanna save it, do whatever, open in this app, share it?", you drag an image onto your Downloads folder in your dock, it just copies it there, you get IINA or QuickTime to load a video, it plays it best, rounded interface, streamlined, looks uniform, everything. Even Finder, you can just preview files by pressing Space.Whereas on Linux it usually is a bit more finicky or unrefined; dragging and dropping may not work, right clicking in the browser isn't the same as in the OS, so on and so forth.

@eric Truthfully I have no experience in professional video editing enough for me to say what I do and don't like with confidence, what I will say is it's surprisingly easy to just go in, take random footage, decide "I want stabilization, blur this specific object, add filter for that object, add that and this on the timeline, ..." as opposed to Kdenlive, though it's fair to say they both do different things. As for DAWs, Logic is simple to understand and so is Ableton after a while (AFAIK Ableton's "Clips" are Logic's "Live Loops"), the real thing comes down to if it supports your "control surface" properly, and if you can make music. FL Studio, I find interesting in that it's really easy, for me, to go in, fuck around, come up with something, extremely simply. Doesn't feel like I put effort in it though.

@eric still need to fuck with DaVinci Resolve, huh... I find my MiniLab 3 to work well with everything (except legacy applications, but whatever) so that's not an issue, so long as I can make something that sounds right, grrjust remembered I fiddled with Premiere Pro a while back, and I think it is far more suited to just adding clips, sound effects, images, things like that with very basic effects and filters. I don't like it; Kdenlive replicates it. Never tried After Effects, however.

I'm on SteamOS. Regular Arch Linux, we'd be done and over with.I can't get the dependencies in their lib32- form, they're too new and this uses outdated deps.I can't get them from the AUR because pacman is at 6.0, yay requires 6.1 and libalpm, I can't build it because the Go package in the SteamOS repos is 1.20, yay requires 1.21, and I can't be assed to manually build the specific packages.. for now.

@eric it's getting tough to find instances that are "neutral" enough, because apparently that's important now.on one hand, Starnix doesn't much care about what happens but people criticize it of not caring about what happens, alluring to some "freeze peach" clique. on the other, raccoon.quest is more "inclusive" and does care to hinder bigotry, namely, and has a more diverse audience. I'm okay with both.

@eric I will say, cdrom and minidisc.tokyo are pretty apolitical and have a niche clique that may fit. Maybe that'll be my new alt should this really go down.
