@Wolven I know you already said it with "paradigmatic capture", but perhaps it's really worth out and out stating that this is how regulatory capture happens and they are 100% trying to do regulatory capture with "AI".Also if I hear "stakeholders" and they DON'T mean "the people the algorithm is applied TO or the people the training data was stolen from" one more time my head is gonna explode, Scanners style.

@Wolven I feel like you nailed something tragic about Case that I couldn't put my finger on before when he's later mentioned in one of the two remaining books; that is, he's married and living a happy little life. It felt sad, and it made me sad, because the world has continued to be bad for Molly and others... but Case, having Gotten His, is no longer fighting the system but accepting it. Case only had to solve a problem and the system worked; it never worked for Molly.

All the people they laid off, but here’s a guy who, to my knowledge, is just a VC tech kid and not an expert, who openly follows a “philosopher” who blatantly believes _Black people are not as smart as white people_ and they can’t wait to hire him. Gee, what group of people were hit hardest by layoffs again? I am beyond disgusted by this. I have to go practice whatever shit I learned in therapy to calm down. Every single person they laid off is worth ten of this racist venture capital fuck.

Hello education people! I saw some people discussing assignments for the classes they teach where they have the students specifically use ChatGPT for research and then compare it against actual real sources as a way to teach the students that basically, ChatGPT is more trouble than it's worth. Does anyone have any first-hand experience or know someone who has a lesson on this? Anecdotal is fine! My sister is a teacher and desperate for some guidance#education #chatgpt #lessons

My memory is telling me that an assignment where a student is challenged to use ChatGPT as an initial source, then try to find actual facts to back it up, is sort of how this goes?I would think an assignment graded not on the syntax or grammar of the essay, but instead the verifiability, of the essay would be a great way to illustrate how poor of a source it is. But anyway, despite dabbling in grad school, I am not an educator!

@Wolven Last night, as I was thinking of Bourdain's comments, I thought how much I wished he could have outlived Kissinger. Then I thought about all the people whose names we'll never get to know that Kissinger killed, and how much they deserved to see this day. And how much more they deserved justice that everyone is now denied. I wish they were still alive.

@simon I agree with a lot of what you say, except I don't quite agree with the analogy you came up with re: the microphone, as that one IS easy to disprove (although I don't agree that they'd take a mortal blow to their reputation if they were discovered). In this case, the data is absolutely sent to OpenAI, where in the microphone case it's never collected/sent to Meta.I don't think they'll *train* on it, necessarily, but I do NOT trust OpenAI as a company, and critically every new link...
