#introductions Hey everyone! I juggle roles being a Postdoc at MISU (Stockholm University), research software developer, blogger and a person. Scientifically, I am trained in #FluidMechanics, fresh out of PhD a few months ago. I study geophysical flows and turbulence.I also maintain a:- Personal alt: @ashwinvis - Website: https://ashwinvis.github.io

@strypey Torrents sounds like a good solution for hot topics (like Covid-19), it may not be a general solution for most research topics which tend to be more niche and needs long-term, sustainable archives.#OpenData

In what format do you write your #CV? Do you separate your content from the formatting?

#TIL the inventor of the Discrete Cosine Transform (#DCT) Prof. Emeritus Nasir Ahmed hails from #India.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasir_Ahmed_(engineer)For a contribution of this magnitude, used in compression like JPEG and MPEG and in computational sciences like CFD even today, I don't see any awards or accolades.

@djoerdYes! I had heard that #JMLR has significantly less production costs... something like 6.5 USD per articlehttps://blogs.harvard.edu/pamphlet/2012/03/06/an-efficient-journal/Also see this discussion: https://ask-open-science.org/28/how-much-does-it-cost-to-publish-an-academic-articleP.S.: #JOSS (https://joss.theoj.org/) has net 0 costs by relying on GitHub for everything.

A #ClimateClock countdown is quite an impact and I am thinking of having a banner at my website. I found two:https://climateclock.world/clockshttps://climateclock.net/Another option is an interactive plot showing how the 1.5 degree threshold would have reached in 2040s if we acted earlier, but now it is ~2030. https://climate.copernicus.eu/how-close-are-we-reaching-global-warming-15degchttps://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsapp#!/software/app-c3s-global-temperature-trend-monitor?tab=app#scicomm #outreach #ClimateChange

@wim_v12e2040 was what projections were pointing at 5 years ago. Now we are looking at hitting 1.5 degree Celsius of global warming by 2033.@xjixhttps://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsapp#!/software/app-c3s-global-temperature-trend-monitor?tab=app
