       Single-user instances don't get much visibility because of the way ActivityPub works. So for #FollowFriday, here's an eclectic list of solo instances: some tech, some memes, some just interesting and unusual.* @ayo* @twizzay * @cerebrate * @emerald * @bob * @hyde * @a * @jaredzimmerman * @alexelcu * @CodingItWrong

@Linux_in_a_Bit See, this is a tricky one.For a normal mouse, I prefer no acceleration. With acceleration it'll eventually drift to a corner of the mousepad. But I mostly use trackballs, and trackballs *need* acceleration to be usable.

Upon finding an implementation of this spec (https://github.com/digitalbazaar/rdf-canonize), I realize the W3C has a point. I'm just going to take the code I need from this repo and never look at it again. The algorithm involves repeatedly hashing and rehashing different permutations of graph nodes to find a canonical ordering, *with no guarantee it will ever terminate*.

@atomicpoet @fediversenews What are some prominent or well-known WordPress sites that are using ActivityPub? I'm not sure I've come across any posts from a WordPress server on my timeline yet, though maybe I just haven't realized it.

@boilingsteam I feel like it has potential and could have a lot of overlap with the Fediverse. https://github.com/dimkr/tootik is an interesting project.

Insane game-engine-adjacent idea: represent cartesian coordinates on a hexagonal grid as base-√3 balanced ternary, to eliminate the √3 in hexagon sizessomeone please talk me out of this so I can work on Tapir instead

@Hyolobrika No, I'm already using that (and it's really cool). That solves a problem of uniquely addressing hexes in 1 dimension and grouping them, and it produces some cool patterns (look up Gosper Islands). What I'm talking about is the problem of going from hex coords to [x,y] Cartesian coords. There's no way to do this cleanly because either the width or the height of a hexagon will contain sqrt(3). You can cheat by approximating, and that works well enough, but...

@Hyolobrika ...then I saw this video about irrational bases (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI-pwt7LyUw) and realized that a sqrt(3) base could actually cleanly represent [x,y] coords on a hex map as kinda-sorta-integers.There's probably no reason do this except my unhealthy fascination with weird math.

Just pushed an extensive update to FEP-fffd (Proxy Objects), which explains the process of merging posts with their proxies and removes the need for extra context entries. This should hopefully be the final syntax for this feature.https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/commit/0c2bbbe6b157f052a1b3109354a7574e2d45058f/feps/fep-fffd.md#FEP #Fediverse #ActivityPub #Nostr

@rdaily People who aren't from the American South are always shocked to learn that these exist. One of the main reasons I'm glad I live in New England now. (Although deer ticks are a whole different kind of scary.)

Reading https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2023/05/28/the-gemini-protocol-seen-by-this-http-client-person/ makes me wonder if there's any interest out there in a #Gemini-like mini-web protocol based on Noise Pipes instead of TLS. Could still use Gemtext, and maybe include connection reuse and large request bodies; this would make it a good base protocol for APIs as well.

If Apple #VisionPro takes off, sharing 3D photos and videos on social media could become a thing. Maybe the #Fediverse could beat commercial social media to have the first apps that support that? It can't be that hard to add it as an attachment type; we'd just need some iOS #Mastodon app(s) to support displaying whatever 3D media types Vision Pro uses.
