@zeank bad, you need to give something people can type in their app store of choice and get a program installed, if the #xmpp community keeps having that #nerd mindset, xmpp will never get mainstream adoption but be a niche for techies, which is fine, but then I see some people promoting it when we are talking of replacing mainstream messengers@brie

@Goffi if it is just unencrypted #email then that is mostly useless for #DeltaChat besides there will be no proper federation of emoji reactions, stickers, etc @nicoco @debacle

@vulkan what do you mean by "I tried but failed"?it is super easy to do, you only need to go to https://chatmail.at/relays select one relay you want to add, click the QR code that will appear in the relay page, that will prompt you to add a new address to your existing selected profile, in Advanced settings > Relays you can see your list of relays/addresses and add/remove or change or select which one should be your main address (used for sending)

@david_chisnall by saying "requires phone numbers" I was implying that you can discover people by phone numbers since that is the case in 99% if not 100% of all apps that offer phone number registration, that you can disable this feature is meaningless if it is opt-out and most people will leave it like that, by saying ArcaneChat is immune to this I meant because you can't discover people like that, people must get in contact directly via QR or invite link

@david_chisnall #DeltaChat is for private chatting, so you normally don't put your link anywhere publicly, you could create a dedicated profile for public interactions tho, which, unlike in signal, it is super easy to do and you can have as many as you want,and notice the use case I am talking here is family chat, not business and public interactions, that is why I said "keep your family safe" I am talking about family chat solution here

@daniel well it depends on the context, I am Cuban, that Delta Chat used email was the whole point I started using it and contributing, besides cheaper data plan for national email, you see down there in the 3rd world on an unstable 2g connection at 1kb/s #email, asynchronity and offline-first comes on top of #xmpp which together with #Telegram really struggles to even get connected, in a fast hyperconnected 1st world this might be less relevant until some emergency times or in isolated areas

@dougwade Delta Chat would still be a better option, besides being YEARS ahead of such new solution, in Delta Chat you don't depend on a particular server, for example here in fediverse if your instance goes down suddenly you lose your profile, with delta chat you can have several instances at the same time so if one goes down the other keeps working (this is new and still under development), the fedi solution would also need that level of resilience to be comparable @rysiek
