@technomancy meanwhile back in #bsd.... “You wanna play audio? Oh yeah, no problem, bud. Works out of the box with only the kernel driver.”

@technomancy even in Firefox, on FreeBSD, YouTube works totally fine.

@technomancy pulseaudio is like systemd—you don’t really need it, but somehow, in Linux land, it’s forced upon you anyway.

@veer66 @technomancy I think there’s probably packages, but not unless you have a specific need for it, it’s never been necessary for me.

@technomancy Yeah, my default was always to attempt to remove or not install, but it’s against the grain. Have you tried killing X, and then launching firefox first thing? Maybe there’s a race to use the audio device...

@technomancy @cwebber yeah, it’s “almost CSP” being sold as CSP. It’s awful to be a part of. People at work think I am a grouch because I complain so much.

Why does the Norwegian Navy have barcodes on their ships? So they can Scandinavian.

@technomancy I’m pretty sure this is illegal in at least 10 states...

@minus @sir I imagine it makes more sense to “port” compiz tools than start completely from scratch...

#hottake: static type enthusiasts are forced to _think_ about their code first, which is why development appears to go so smoothly. If everyone, regardless of language, thought about the design up front they, too, would see similar benefits.

@Gargron hmm... AGPL doesn’t work if the SaaS product modifies Mastodon to, say, make an external request to a proprietary service. They’re obligated to release that modification, but not the service it calls out to. So, yeah, I am glad mastodon uses AGPL, but it’s not a panacea of protection.

#Lisp in Several Pizzas — If I start this in #PDX, say every 2nd Wednesday of the month, where we just go eat pizza together, would people join me? #racket #elisp #scheme #clojure #fennel #arc

Recommendations for an #activitypub #indieweb compatible, but mostly static, microblog for self service photo posting? ... preferably not written in PHP, or JS? Is this even a thing?

@djsumdog that’s what I am thinking, too. What I, ideally, want to do is host a microblog that can be subscribed to via mastodon, but without administering a full instance, and such. Probably tooting up the wrong horn here, and this isn’t something I can wing without deeper understanding of it all.

@djsumdog maybe J should look seriously at @tedu’s honk. Might be able to get what I am looking for from that.
