Twitter is having interesting times. This seems like a good time to have a new look at Mastodon. The decentralized architecture should provide pretty good protection against hostile takeovers. Not sure if it makes any of the hard problems of social media any easier, but at least it looks like a step to a good direction.

@lamp There already are pretty good techniques to fight against DDOS attacks and the like based on experiences with other decentralized servers (email, IRC, http, ...). Likely Mastodon could likely also use caching easily between servers, since data is only updated on one server (?). The interesting issues are indeed likely blocking, misinformation, etc.

@textfiles Dev environments such as OnBoardC (https://sourceforge.net/projects/onboardc/files/onboardc/2.5.1/) and LispMe (http://www.lispme.de/lispme/index_en.html) would be amusing.
