       @lancehomer @audrey @adamdavidson Social media lawyer here (since MySpace 2004). For those hosting US-BASED Mastodon instances it’s all great advice. (Can’t comment on other countries.)These are all risks that come with scale. The #DMCA notice-and-takedown safe harbor in particular is a boon for any US-based site that hosts #UGC.        @audrey @adamdavidson @lancehomer I have an old post (needs updating; apologies for broken links etc.) that covers the broader range of legal issues for *US-BASED* UGC sites at https://bottomlinelawgroup.com/2010/11/12/if-you-build-it-they-will-abuse-it/. Aimed at startup founders, but most applies to non-commercial sites as well.Scale is key to assessing risk. Pragmatically, IMO main issue is copyright if you get big enough to hit radar screens of rights agents working on behalf of studios, record labels, etc.
