@elliswyatt Not sure about the hitler comparison re: democracy--it was the politicians clinging to power than enabled, not the concept. Like in the USA at the moment with #GOPs #MAGA #Trump cronies and opportunists. Bad guys generally work an angle, like the ones who use bible-thumping to be unkind and try for handmaid's tales...

@elliswyatt ...My point exactly. Greedy, self-aggrandising politicians like #GOP #MAGA corrupt democracy the same as greedy, self-aggrandising people corrupt communities, marriages, friendships, sports, equalities tra la tra la. It's not the political or political ideas but the corruption of practices at fault. And the disillusionment that follows and corrodes.

@elliswyatt "They are all corrupt", "only the worst of the worst wants to rule over their neighbours" (if 'rule' means 'govern' which most elected officials espouse to do)--each appears a generalisation. Neurobiology suggests the human nervous system is designed to protect itself, hence why it developed interpretations of sensate triggers via emotions: fear, anger etc but reactivity to emotion isn't always skilful. Generalisations can be manifestations of the anger defense & unskillful too.

@elliswyatt Millions in US vote for candidates as their voice to make laws that compel (like prison for murder).If citizens know a candidate is corrupt, they don't have to vote for them.Of course many folks don't bother to vote which is the biggest flaw in some democracies.Or gerrymandering. If one was into angry generalisations, one might argue it's the worst of the worst NOT to vote. Hitler, Trump & corrupt representatives were voted in by citizens, not by politicians. Monkeys/Peanuts 🙈 🙉 🐒

@elliswyatt And by 'voted in' I mean both electorally and via parliamentary approval when democratic parliamentarians/representatives do the will of 'the people' aka the voters.

@elliswyatt Not voting is a vote. If people don't vote, by default they're voting for imposition (although US judiciary is used to fight against imposition).US seems lemming-like at the moment: shouting 'your'e not the boss of me', while dissociating with TV, video games, social media as Rome burns. Bioethecist, Dr. Nancy Berlinger has a point: "Americans don't agree about the duty to protect others whether it’s from a virus or gun violence"--one might add angry, generalising 'othering' too.
