@leo @Lisa @MikeElgan looks fantastic. My mushroom guy is hooking me up with some chanterelles this weekend.

@leo I muted a bunch of folks for a week. I also filtered out RT @ and that removed pretty much all the twitter retweets from my feed.

A couple of things I've learned recently about norms here:CW is great for a lot of topics, not just NSFW or violence. Think of it like a "headline" or "subject line" for your post and folks can choose to look at it or not. Use them often. Policing CWs, especially by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) member is NOT okay. alt-text for photos and pics is incredibly useful and important for accessibility. Try to get in the habit of a quick description when you post a pic. 1/

Hashtags are great and should also be used liberally -that's how we find stuff we're interested in, across the fediverse. HOWEVER, Hashtags [can be difficult for people with visual impairment or ND people] so please use them [most of them] at the end of your post, in a hashtag block, not scattered throughout. One or two are okay. Edited to add: CamelCase is more important for screenreaders!#accessibility #CW #AltText #AntiRacism

Just to follow up on this - apparently, it's okay to have a few hashtags inline, just not a bunch of them; not just for screenreaders, but also for sighted folks who might have difficulty with visual clutter. So, yeah, like most things, it's more nuanced than the "just don't do it" announcement, I made last week as a newbie. My apologies. Please DO use #CamelCase though in your hashtags. That makes a huge difference. #accessibility

@pluralistic I'm told that if you post the first post of a long thread publicly, then change the "public" setting to "unlisted", it won't clutter up the feed with 30+ posts for one thread. People can then boost the initial post and everyone can still read and respond to the thread without it showing up 30+ times.
