@futurebird As I’ve been saying for a long time, by the time you make infrastructure actually work efficiently for “autonomous” cars — including roads outfitted with additional crap to keep them from being confused and the necessity to have them all on a shared protocol that can route them logistically — you’ve essentially recreated public transportation, but worse and more expensive.

Reagan’s “most terrifying words = I’m from the government and I’m here to help” was so bad for us. Thr 80s onward really undid a lot of earlier generational work around civic pride & citizenship & public service. What a loss.

I had a Corgi Batmobile as a kid — I still have it, but it’s in pretty bad shape. So I was happy to see there are new Corgi reproductions being made (not just this) and treated myself. It’s lovely.

@futurebird @smh This made me just now remember I had a digital watch in high school (80s) that I could program a formula into — I think it was an honors geography class I used it for some problem where I could just type in the variables? Now I can’t remember what brand or model that was. It seems bizarre now.
