@futurebird No offense but NY politicians are some of the most corrupt in the country. It is unbelievable that Jeffries and Schumer are the Democratic leadership. I was disgusted that Adams became mayor. Hochul cancelling congestion pricing was a gift to Rs. Don't even get me started on the orange felon. And everything you said. Wall Street and unlimited money in politics are a scourge on our country that resurrected fascism in the USA and NY pols are the ring leaders.

@SeanCasten Its sad but Bluesky is just one sale away from threats described in the article. Its a shame so much energy went into migrating to that platform despite it having the same flaws as last generation social media. Maybe someone will come up with a way to port Bluesky profiles and followers over to ActivityPub in such an event. Glad you're on here Sean!

@futurebird I definitely think Marketplace is worth following. I'd add Planet Money and Freakenomics to similar types of shows. However Lever News covered the topic today and I highly recommend it over those. @futurebird As people living in walk-able dense urban areas we are not seeing what the typical American does. During the cold war Americans were duped that the enemy was communism not authoritarianism. Americans are increasingly isolated into Suburban communities. They have almost no public life and almost everything they experience is filtered by corporate interests. Corporate interests want them to believe crime is rising because fearful people spend more and question authority less.

@futurebird Still a big fan of sex and drinking, married and have no interest in divorce. My friends are sort of mixed but I think they generally like drinking, sex, and would prefer to marry eventually. Maybe something weird is going on with suburban people though.

@futurebird @mcc Those likely aren't bikes, maybe motorcycles or moped. Max speed is 28 mph on regulated electric bikes and they can't have a throttle if they go over 20 mph.

@futurebird Yup e bikes are regulated, in my city only class 1 e bikes are allowed places where regular bikes are allowed. They go to 20 mph and require pedaling. @futurebird I'm so sad I didn't pick up another language as a young person. This is a really unfortunate part of our culture. I've been casually learning Spanish for a few years now and it is a joy. Instead of being worried about the jerbs I'm more concerned about welcoming my neighbors and understanding their cultures better. I'd also love to know mandarin but that's a whole other beast. I need to figure out the next step in my Spanish adventure first.

@futurebird Yeah people are totally enthralled when Americans are genuinely interested in their culture. Does he study Mandarin? In my area we have a substantial amount of Cantonese speakers which further complicates what to learn. I unfortunately think our shared culture is bad. I hope everyday there is some way to turn it around but a majority of people are obsessed with billionaire controlled media that keeps us easily taken advantage of.

@futurebird I agree with you in regards to public pools, I believe private pools are quite different and can be very dangerous. Public pools are strictly staffed and regulated. Private pools are usually unattended and easily accessed by a child unnoticed.
