@bobmonsour Yep, with @Inoreader its possible to pipe selected feeds directly to PDFs on Dropbox. But unfortunately, they are not what I call "nice typography”. :) I’ll keep you updated if I find something I like more!

@bobmonsour Oh! Turns out that Calibre has a RSS-to-EPUB feature that I hadn't seen before! https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/news.html That's even better for my use case, where I want to read selected newsletters on my e-reader!@Inoreader

What #RSS feeds do you think I should add to my reader for great texts about #AI (from the technological vantagepoint), #AI and #Democracy / #Society, #Indieweb, and #GTD / #PKM?

@Castopod Hi! I'm currently hosting a podcast on Wordpress with Blubrry. Looking for alternatives, and wonder if Castopod could be an option. I just installed on a testserver, but got the impression this is more a solution for hosting /many/ podcasts. Would Castopod still be a good fit if I just want to host one, and have it directly on the domain.tld and not domain.tld/podcastname?

Wow! Massively (and positively) surprised about some of the numbers here! For all elected politicians to read. But also some troubling parts, to say the least. Most heartbreaking: How support for paying to avoid #climatechange differs between countries, where people in rich countries are willing to pay less. https://ourworldindata.org/climate-change-support

#BorgBackup, #Restic, or #ArqBackup for remote backups of MacOS clients?

Testing out #borgbackup and #vorta. Vorta says my photo backup is 0.8 MB. Either a miscalculation (most likely?), an incomplete backup (doesn’t seem so from the tests I run), or EXTREMELY effective compression (least likely, as the source folders have 1.1 terabyte worth of photos).Hope to find a way to verify that a calculation error is the actual reason. Incomplete backups aren’t much worth.

In the process of migrating my old Wordpress site to 11ty. Among other things, that means I revisit articles I wrote about tech over the last 20 years ago. Fascinating to see how some things have changed over the years, while other issues persist over time. The open web, the battle between platforms, and others.

Since I’m giving #Kagi a go this month, I’ve tried the searches I’ve seen causing Google’s new AI summarization on Kagi’s AI (by adding a question mark to trigger it). I’m still to find one that Kagi answers wrong the way Google does. What has started to happen though is that Kagi includes references to Google’s mistakes. This makes me curious about the differences in the implementations. Not necessarily a problem with the tech itself, but rather with what sources are available to the #AI?

@doktorzjivago Har sett #meshtastic användas allt oftare i mitt flöde. Men lyckas inte riktigt greppa vad det är. Meshnät för kommunikation via mobilapp? För digital resiliens? Något mer? @meraord @AasaMariaHedberg @selea @rtn @samuel @mikaelfer

@selea Kan all tänkbar IP-baserad trafik lika gärna gå via Meshtastic? Dvs kan man sätta upp en webbserver, skicka mail, etc? Eller vad är det för tjänster som körs? @doktorzjivago @meraord @AasaMariaHedberg @rtn @samuel @mikaelfer

I continue to think about decentralized networks. And I'm wondering, among other things, if we need squares or courtyards, and why good metaphors play a role in wise decisions.#mastodon #fediverse #activitypub #socialmedia #socialnetworks #selfhostedhttps://anders.thoresson.se/post/2025/05/town-squares-backyards-better-metaphors-and-decentralised-networks/

@smallcircles Yes, you are of course right! Had a passage about that in an early draft, but see that it was lost in the process.

@smallcircles Possibly! Is the list already online somewhere to have a look at?I wonder if the two terms are treated as one by most people, and separating them like that could perhaps add confusion if you really haven’t thought about it?

@smallcircles Any examples on what you would put in each category? I think it doesn’t only come down to the technical solution, but also the intention of the specific installment of a piece of software. I have a small, private Mastodon instance only for family. But the same tool powers some huge instances as well.

@wjmaggos @smallcircles Agreed! I also want some of both. But to me, I find more value, at least right now, in the smaller backyards than on the global town square.

What is the best option to host a #Mastodon instance with its own domain name? Max four users, most possibly only me. #fediverse #SelfHosting
