       @mekkaokereke "Dependency theory" is perineally popular in the US. Folks are convinced that social services harm individuals and families by causing them to grow dependent on the government, thereby spoiling their ability to work and contribute. People are unswayed by the lack of evidence for this theory and the huge body of evidence that contradicts it.
