Sussman and Steele published more Lambda papers than I was aware of. This handy reference lists and links to all of them.https://www.pls-lab.org/en/Lambda_papers_(Scheme)#scheme #lisp #ProgLang

These days coding for retro computer system is a recreational and learning activity. But sometimes it's essential for maintaining mission critical legacy software, like in this case of writing a new x86 C compiler for Windows CE.https://building.enlyze.com/posts/a-new-windows-ce-x86-compiler-in-2024#WindowsCE #windows #retrocomputing

My lovely little M5Stock Cardputer microcontroller system runs uLisp on the bare metal but I can't do much with it due to a showstopper issue. Here's my brief experience with the device.https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/paoloamoroso/a-brief-experience-with-the-cardputer-ulisp-machine#cardputer #uLisp #lisp #arduino

When rendering source files in repos GitHub now filters out control codes which makes Interlisp code look much cleaner. The codes are still stored in repos and shown in the raw file view. Interlisp source files embed control codes for font changes in syntax highlighting.See for example this Towers of Hanoi program:https://github.com/Interlisp/medley/blob/master/lispusers/HANOIGutHub likely rolled out this handy new feature over the past few weeks but I've just noticed it.#GitHub #interlisp #lisp

I bought myself a Lisp toy as a Christmas present, a Cardputer uLisp Machine. The M5Stack Cardputer I ordered is a card-sized portable computer based on the ESP32-S3 that runs uLisp on the bare metal. The device even has Wi-Fi, a keyboard, and a graphics display. Given the system constraints uLisp comes with a surprisingly capable and rich environment, as well as lots of libraries and applications.A long wait begins.http://www.ulisp.com/show?52G4http://www.ulisp.com#uLisp #lisp #esp32

A good workaround finally allows me to use the Cardputer uLisp Machine, a lovely card-sized microcontroller system that runs uLisp. If any Emacs wizard has any advice on how to fix the remaining minor echo issue mentioned in the post, I'm interested.https://journal.paoloamoroso.com/paoloamoroso/making-ulisp-more-usable-on-the-cardputer#cardputer #ulisp #lisp

In a system that is Lisp all the way down like Medley Interlisp you get scripting for free. Pretty much everything has a Lisp API that can be called or inputs data. Here I inserted in the TEdit rich text editor a table of square roots formatted by a short user function evaluated in the REPL at the top left, and a datestamp returned by evaluating the DATE system function in the small input box (evaled as soon as the right parenthesis is typed, so omitted for clarity).#interlisp #lisp

In a previous life I worked in astronomy outreach at the Brera Observatory in Milan, Italy.I conducted guided tours of the astronomical museum and the dome of the original Merz refractor Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli used in the 19th century for his observations of the canals of Mars. In these 2011 photos I showed the telescope and the view from the roof of the building.https://www.flickr.com/photos/forthebirds/6228095056https://www.flickr.com/photos/forthebirds/6228095640https://www.flickr.com/photos/forthebirds/6227574063#HistoryOfAstronomy #astronomy #telescope

This post nicely captures why AWK is such a delightful and effective little language:"A minimum of features liberates creativity. When there is only one way to do something, you don’t spend a lot of time choosing that very way."https://maximullaris.com/awk.html#awk #linux
