Let you have an n-bit (unsigned) integer for an address. The first address is 0 and the last is 2n - 1.For a length, it usually only makes sense to consider the non-zero values, so the smallest length is 1 and the largest is 2n .In both cases there is the same range, all combinations of the n bits are utilized. But for the addresses 0 means nothing, just an arbitrary starting point. While for the lengths 0 means 1, counter-intuitively.Seems like it's the case not only with addresses and lengths, but generally (integer) ordinal and cardinal numbers.And also in many cases people still use 0 to mean zero-length, thus making the length of the entire address space non-representable.

I may finally have a chance to apply #VHDL in practice.Just gluing a project in it to a project in #SystemVerilog so far, and I don't need to write any new devices ATM, but there may be some opportunities nevertheless.

Well that kind of projects are actually a PITA, because the languages are not equivalent and the proprietary crapware doesn't even do what the official documentation says it should.
