I use #pihole on my networks for #security first, and #adblock second.But I recently read @Codeberg 's blog entry about how they are impacted by poorly maintained blocklists and, bluntly, the hypocrisy of blocklists which let big repo hosts slide when they are reported for distributing malware but are trigger happy when it comes to smaller hosts.I self-host #git repos, too.How well do my blocklists perform?Do I need whitelists?https://blog.codeberg.org/how-blocklists-prevent-the-internet-to-be-decentralized-and-safe.html

@Codeberg Well, clearly I need #whitelist s in #pihole. And a plan for how to maintain them. And time to study up on the best practices for doing *that*, and best practices for #piholeblocklist s, and while I am adding tasks I may as well collect #metadata about blocklist maintenance, such as tickets and PR.This is beginning to sound rather like a project.

Mr Trump *has* been found guilty of rather a few things - including racism in housing, civil and criminal contempt of court, defrauding students, fraud and misappropriation of funds, abuse, and defamation. @mayonesa @erethizon @georgetakei Oddly enough, I think an executive officer whose corporation is found guilty of crimes and is shut down by the court, to have been found guilty of a crime - that's actually the specific difference between legally liable (as an officer) and having limited liability (as a shareholder.)But ianal, and simply have opinions expressed on the internet.

@erethizon @mayonesa @georgetakei Mr Trump, iirc, has court cases he has been delaying for 20+ years, possibly longer. I do not believe this most recent indictment will be resolved more quickly than some of the others.There are 4 charges in the most-recent federal indictment, all 4 are criminal charges as I understand them. These do not carry as high a risk of prison time as the classified document handling case; I believe they are 2x 5 years max, and 2x 20 years max.

@raccoonformality I hope everyone on this thread is aware of #BookWyrm - a #fediverse platform specific to talking about #books .The #floss project is hosted at https://github.com/mouse-reeve/bookwyrm/ and there is at least one public instance at https://bookwyrm.social/Because it is in the #fedi, you can follow discussions, hashtags, and people with your Mastodon account - you do not need to create a new account. But, like all the fedi platforms, there are additional features, and of course #community!

@alwayscurious For my workflows, every flatpak I have used has failed disastrously at one point or another. I do not use many; down to two.For the 'upstreams' who have abandoned making it possible, let alone easy, to compile locally - the instant that fails I am without any recourse.When a repo is behind the times, I have options like compiling it myself, finding another repo, downloading it directly.You see flatpak as solution. I see it as a single point of failure. Both right.

@bp Let me start with an apology - my question was unacceptably vague. I intended to ask for evidence of your friend Max being assaulted. We are being bombarded with #propaganda, and I question all of it.But that is not something you provided.From the Afzaal family run down in Ontario to someone shooting up that school overnight, we have plenty of violence and hate-motivated activities in Canada. It is only too bad some focus on a subset to promote, it seems to me, even more.

@todayilearned Huh!For some reason I have it stuck in my head that "ancient", in the historic sense, is "before history recording", usually meaning before a culture has its own writing system.I think that means Machu Picchu would still be 'ancient', although it was visited visited by Spaniards? #Wikipedia cites a radio-carbon dating suggesting it was beginning about 1420, but naturally took a very long time to develop and the community was small - 750 individuals.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machu_Picchu

@mcc also, Puri.sm? I purchased a #Librem 13 which worked well. Not stellar, but good enough build quality.#Purism has done some world-changing things, and their #PureOS PureOS.net is ‘purer’ than #Debian. They upstream everything which can be. (The #convergent focus means you are almost certainly already using some of their #code.)But unit price is how they pay to improve the #Linux community software. Also, the #L13 does not survive saltwater immersion test.
