@misty @fd_vgn Agree that migrating post history should be a choice. Some people prefer the ephemeral nature of life, leaving as few footprints as possible. Others just realize they don’t have much to say that is of any real value long term to others.

@dave Yeah but given how ChatGPT seems to go astray at times, careful if they recommend putting non-food items in any recipe you ask about … or strange things like “packet of cherry Kool-Aid” thinking “it just needs some color” — though at the moment Bing seems a bit more diabolical than ChatGPT

@brewsterkahle I was surprised there was no date on the “divorce” pamphlet anywhere in the images - perhaps it is under the library’s barcode. I was also surprised (and slightly dismayed) that it appears the entries in archive.org for these pamphlets do not include any original publication date, even when it can clearly be seen in the images on the documents. Without an original publication date I assume these won’t be found in a date range search at archive.org?

@dave I’m thinking that FoxNews shouldn’t bring this up as part of their defense against the Dominion lawsuit.

@brewsterkahle @mmasnick If one looks at the most recent Call Report for SVB filed with the FFIEC here ‪ https://cdr.ffiec.gov/public/ManageFacsimiles.aspx - in particular page #63 (Sched RC-R Part II). You can see huge exposure in “Held-to-maturity securities”Compared to other banks their securities-to-cash ratio is not normal. It seems SVB was trying to pick up a few nickels betting that interest rates wouldn’t rise. Goldman Sachs ratio is less than 3%; SVB is over 750%

@arstechnica The engineers responsible for actually doing the work think it’s a bad idea … but management keeps rolling ahead. What can possibly go wrong?

@BarrenPlanet @fediversenews @jo @MetalSamurai @jupiter_rowland @LucyWildboots Be patient with this old guy for a second who’s never been dogpiled. This post of yours I’m responding to has an image of your post - took all of 1-2 seconds. If a malicious actor did this plus put your handle in text making it easy for their sub-human malicious sycophants to find you, is this any different from a native QT re: enabling dogpiling?

@simon Selling anything is always about the value proposition - the reason someone will (literally) take cash out of their pocket and put it into yours. The key word is “value” - and the one that matters is the value *perceived* by the customer. The problem is one of putting yourself in the customer’s shoes (or better ask them) how you can provide value.Today it’s ChatGPT, tomorrow something else. The horseless carriage was also a disruptor and creator. It still sucks.

@textfiles Some days I think you have the coolest job … some days I think you have the worst job … and some days (like today) I think both things at different times. Thanks for all you (and all the other worker bees) do to keep so much history from being lost to the dustbin. The other day I stepped into my personal wayback machine and listened to some of that Kresge (K-Mart) background music.

Impressed that a #wikipedia editor who is on #mastodon has already updated the #webkit page today to reflect the correct information for @lisamelton 👍 Community sourced data for the win.

@lowqualityfacts @lisamelton Shitposters (appealing to Neanderthal brain) not the same as Sarcasm (appealing to high level reasoning)Because of the audience (at least the people I see) shitposters go nowhere here but sarcasm can take off. Of course I could be totally wrong and just enjoying the superiority that comes from saying I’m not a Neanderthal. 🤷‍♂️
