@lauren @mackaj nope. You can’t convince me to use biometrics to unlock my phone.Forcing you to unlock your phone with biometric data is too easyhttps://www.wired.com/story/police-unlock-iphone-face-id-legal-rights/

I have a friend who has been a dairy farmer most of his life and now has vineyards. His farm truck is an old Subaru outback and has been for years.Don’t tell me farmers need a Ute.

@vik not really. In my experience anytime you’re doing anything like that you are using a quad bike or the tractor.

@vik fair enough, I don’t know your land. In my experience dairy farming and strawberry farming we did have a small 2nd flat deck Ute. For strawberries a van would haven been better. For dairy we used the tractor for any rough terrain.

@clive I just moved from my 12 year old Macboook pro to a 7 year old MacBook Air. They have done very well for me. In fact the MacBook pro is still serviceable just issues with apps now being incompatible. That said I’m considering a secondhand Thinkpad as a Linux machine

@clive I’ve been fortunate that all of my Macs have lasted a long time with minimal issues. Though I’m never certain if it’s how I use/care for my computers or just a bit of luck

States have failed us with their dogged refusal to turn away from neoliberalism. All future generations will pay for a few billionaire to get even richer today.https://youtu.be/G96PUbxxR2w?si=DqOhLc1N0HO_IWenhttps://yewtu.be/G96PUbxxR2w?si=DqOhLc1N0HO_IWen#climate #collapse #overshoot

@lightweight I was angry reading this. I’m sorry this happened to her and I feel like there needs to be consequences for the politicians and planners who consistently put cars before safety for other users.I barely escaped a car swerving into the bike lane last Friday afternoon. They didn’t even see what happened but I think I woke them up when I smacked the top of their car as I passed them a few meters down the road.

The top three stories on #RNZ this morning we’re:- Airlines services into the regions.- Fonterra’s big windfall payout to farmers and how farmers could expand dairy production.- Yesterdays huge storms and the damage they’ve caused across the country.Climate change was not mentioned once all morning.#nzpol

@mike @lightweight my 2011 MacBook Pro does everything I need it to do running Linux. My 2018 iMac is close to being upgraded as well.

I resent that almost every job vacancy I’ve looked at recently has required ‘proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite’ or similar.Honestly anyone who uses any software other than Microsoft can pivot to using that garbage with minimal effort.

@lightweight “What they really mean is 'is willing to settle for MS Office'.” Exactly this - or we have to use it so you do too.

Corin Dann this morning pressing Hipkins on paying billions for overseas carbon credits.Corin, we have to buy offshore carbon credits. New zealand voters indicated they want us to spend billions in credits when they voted for parties that wouldn't take climate action within Aotearoa. We can use all the extra money we made by prioritising growing the economy.#nzpol

@lightweight I genuinely cannot understand why anybody would vote for NZ first. What have they offered other than foster anti-immigrant sentiment, support big tobacco, loosen fisheries rules and back oil corporates? Absolutely crazy.
