@freemo I will never understand the gun infringement issue. Otherwise 💯

@freemo absolutely. I'm trying to imagine possible scenarios that the original intent could play out. I don't see a use. State tyranny cannot be the reason, at least for those who really are oppressed. I'm all ears if you believe that it is needed.

@freemo hunting or defense in wildlife (or even dangerous jobs) in many countries are valid reasons to apply and get a permit. Do you have safety concerns and need your gun in Netherlands?

@freemo yes. An amendment shouldn't be a big deal since there are many already. Tyranny argument is not realistic since 1)not just muskets anymore, huge asymmetry 2)state is more likely to use armed civilians as a fear tactic (personally witnessed in protests in Istanbul where armed "civilians" opposed (chased down with machetes and guns) the peaceful protestors and never got caught by the police (a miracle!)

@freemo does this suggest you are not at all concerned with the level of gun violence in the US? Because the laws change when there is a problem and many believe that there is. I cannot accept that Sandy hook is the price to pay. I'm able, some are and some aren't. They cannot fight. The whole point of civilization is that we protect our weakest. Half of America is armed to the teeth and specifically for a civil war. Outcomes are only getting worse.

@freemo plus no matter how righteous your cause may be the state has the monopoly on violence, at least legitimacy of it. Hence all oppressive govs want violent uprisings. They are weak against peaceful protests but the moment violence is in play the whole world lines up to support the "legitimate" violence. See recent history of Israel, Turkey, Russia, SA, UK, Spain, China etc. And Rittenhouses will always walk free.

@aral I share the frustration but this revealed how strong an influence the state of Israel's right wing over the US. This is the tail wagging the dog and goes way beyond Biden. It is a structural issue that will need to be addressed probably over generations IF anyone dares to do it. I'm guessing it is a complicated network of carrots and sticks with a high level of integration that blurred the national interests of the two countries. Clearly none will be untangled and normalized with the existing politicians. Especially with the high influence of rapture-hopeful powerful people still around. I see this as a great opportunity to understand the extent of the issue. Gaza will be a burden for the US for a long time so I hope it motivates the right people to untangle this mess.

@sidereal @WmShakesp3are @HeavenlyPossum It's a very common method. You choose a violent counterpart and push any decent opposition out of the field. If you have big guns you don't want to sit down and negotiate with people who have legitimate arguments. If you can choose who the "other" is then you can do whatever you want. Even though you are known for covert ops and precision strikes nobody asks you why you're not using those to capture or even kill the enemies. It's convenient. And it's not only Israel. Turkey is doing the same to Kurdish minority. Imprison the politicians while back channel talking to the militant organizations.

@futurebird he should either be locked up for his functional life or none at all. See erdogan , they turned his "cell" to a luxury political war room where he received guests to build his support while being a "victim". Those people don't experience things like prison like powerless people do.

@quinn @futurebird I used to see articles saying bugs are the future protein source. I vaguely remember that we couldn't digest chitin. Can we? Or did we find some artificial enzymes?

@futurebird @quinn I agree. Cultural. It may change. I remember my first snail, luckily deliciously made, in Greece. So it didn't leave me with a bad memory.

@Nonilex I wish now some journalists would turn to the Nobel peace prize committee and shed some light on what went down with this year's award. Were they pressured to give it to Trump and then given an off ramp to give it to the person who'll legitimize a coming illegal coup?
