@tek You ever work in a place with designated shredder deposit boxes within fifty feet of all working areas?I never minded the constant surveillance (I mean, we were all ostensibly on the same side), but god those boxes unnerved me for some reason. It was like admitting, "what we do here should be destroyed."

@tek Every day I worked at Global Mega Super Tech, I'd have to walk down a hall that ended with a giant framed FBI wanted poster for the guy who sold the B2 bomber blueprints to the Russians.Anyone who'd publicly apply for a top secret clearance ... That's definitely a choice that can be made, but boy howdy, walking away is the smarter move.

@tek The math on this was quite easy (if unpleasant) for me:Point 1) We're engaged by proxy in the wholesale devastation of 2.3 to 5.3 million people. Our current regime finds this unsavory but acceptable.Point 2) Deposing our current regime accepts the devastation of those same people, as well as the 15% identifying as non-cishet, the 40% identifying as non-white, and the 65% who aren't Evangelical. For point 2, those numbers vastly expand outside our borders as well.

Unlike shouts and chants and physical conflict, it deflates and unnerves them.

@hannu_ikonen Some days, there's those on social media who mock folks for referencing Andor in political discussions, and I'll feel silly because I do that.Then I get a good night's sleep, remember I've studied history and narratology my entire life, and recall the intrinsic power of stories to shape human culture. That, to me, is *the central element* of the series -- both in overcoming the Empire's debilitating fables, and in making sense of one's own struggles in an upside down society.

lol, okay, I learned something new today.I'm searching for an open-source license for my software so I can share my labor, but specifically one that forbids using it in cases that could harm others (since its drone tech and fash fuckers love weaponizing everything).Apparently this is a non-starter for open-source licensing.

This first season is a hard one to rate ...Visually, aurally, performatively sumptuous. The whole thing makes you, the observer, feel like a silent character in the story.And yet, the story itself does not feel especially confident.There is the Lost Boys allegory, the 'what does it mean to be real' trope, the hubris of power dynamic, but none of them really stand on their own; the moral punches get pulled and the players play it safe (if still extremely well acted).
