@saskboy I'm sincerely curious if he's going to ban everyone who voted.

I need to say this before I forget...I've been listening to the back-catalogue of the Your Wrong About podcasts and mentioned one of the observations from the Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal episode (2018) that boomers have been in power since the 1990s while talking with my folks today.And... I could hear my dad bristling over the phone. But it's true. And it's unique to the Boomers.

The same people who were in power in the 90s (in north america) are by and large still in power now. Especially in the USA. Just look at Clarence Thomas. What other generation has been IN POWER for so long?I think the part my dad wasn't catching onto is that it's not that Boomers have continued to work (in and of itself, that's not a big deal), it's that they have monopolized the top, decision-making, big salary roles for the last ~30 years. That's what makes it unique.

A "generation" for the purpose of demographics is around 15-20 years. That means Boomers have held onto power for roughly TWO generations. That's dynastic behaviour without any succession.A generational monopoly on power. It's why NOTHING younger generations want has happenedIt's why everything is about wealth accumulation (because precious retirement funds are exceedingly important to finally-retiring boomers)Meanwhile the absence of succession planning has eroded foundational structure

When I was starting out, I learned that Gen X peers, who should've been into middle-management leadership track positions, were still scraping annually-renewing contracts. An entire generation+ was prevented from building stable lives. The gig economy that followed these coattails has further destabilized things. While boomer leaders in many organizations are now struggling to find anyone "reliable" to train up as a successor.Because they've done nothing to encourage reliability or loyalty.

Anyway, my folks and I had a really good conversation. But I don't think my dad got over the implication that boomers were/are still hoarding power (they are).... most likely because he was ready to retire at 60 and happily did.It is SO INFURIATING that we are STILL dealing with boomer repression of Gen X and Millennial priorities. And that the decisions that ARE getting made are frequently socially and fiscally conservative ... when we NEED social spending for a better future(Imho, ovbs)

@simon I apologise for making the pun everyone else is, but it's going to turn into a literal Deus ex Machina situation

@lowqualityfacts I'm sure someone else has already said this, but bananas ARE berries, so ChatGPT can't get the assignment right at all.https://www.britannica.com/science/berry-plant-reproductive-body
