@futurebird ...these may be the skittery ants that I complain about, if they come into the house! I am fairly tolerant of house ants, but we had a crop that would just skitter spastically across you.

@futurebird probably just some extra flighty carpenter ants, then. They went bonkers for spilled Gatorade.

@futurebird ...a random question, sparked by this post. Can ants count?

@futurebird I spend a lot of time thinking about how I am a writhing collection of ecosystems. It starts out horrifying but ends up kind of soothing; we don't have to be just one thing.

@futurebird you'd make a good mad scientist (if you don't already identify as one).

Me, removing a tick from the dog: Hey Sammy, were you licking this spot because it was ticklish? Hahaha!

I'm still on a physical health break from mastodon but I had to share this bird right now. They were attacking the window! Clinging to the window frame and thumping the glass with their beak!

@futurebird fun anecdata: it is significantly helping with my wife's brain fog and exercise intolerance from long COVID.

@futurebird I've definitely had a direct slack-to-advertisement pipeline several times. I do not love it.

My mom will cook and share food with us, and often it's tasty, but sometimes she makes regrettable choices. On this occasion, she boiled turkey meat while making the stock and left in the wildly overcooked, dry turkey. I hate wasting food, but I couldn't get through this. So, I got a spoon and flung it all over the yard. My dog is now happily on a treasure hunt with extra special treats. Happy Turkey Day to Sammy the dog in particular.

@futurebird I struggle with this one. Sometimes there are people in the community who are just not gonna change a certain type of behavior, and the behavior is annoying but not, y'know, criminal. I can see why people want to complain behind the back of that person; it helps them cope with someone who they want to maintain friendly relations with. Still makes me uncomfortable, though, and I usually don't unless the framing is "how do I better cope with the thing that won't change."
