@Affekt @futurebird @JessTheUnstill yeah a car battery is 12V nominal so even though it can produce 660 amps that’s ‘only’ 7920W, which is a reasonable amount of power to run a starter motor for a car engine. An electric oven or dryer usually draws 4kW or more, but for a lot longer than 30 seconds by flipping the volts and amps magnitudes.

@futurebird an interesting related thread from @PavelASamsonov on Bluesky about how AI is right wing. And I’ll add that tackiness and poor taste is a common trait in fascists, because they generally are mediocre and crave undeserved approval. https://bsky.app/profile/spavel.bsky.social/post/3lmptjg4frc2h

@futurebird oooh I like this observation. Fad chasing is fundamental to AI tools since they are necessarily trained on existing material, often several years out of date.

@futurebird those who benefit from racial-/caste-based power structures feel threatened by the very existence of pluralistic society. Even within NYC you can see how people from more homogenous areas shy away pluralism:

Interesting reading on lessons learned from amateur radio and mesh networking, how the Meshtastic community is relearning them, and some new technologies that might provide a more reliable approach. https://www.zeroretries.org/i/170507037/hard-lessons-learned-what-not-to-do #Meshtastic #AREDN

@cford @futurebird this. It’s been the word used by cloud platforms to describe resources that do processing for a while now, especially since “serverless” has changed the unit from server to function call, and billing has become compute time.

@futurebird same with hallucination. It’s fundamental to how they operate, and arguably what makes them useful to the extent they are.

@futurebird they’re always caught up in some fantasy of revolution, with apparently no understanding of the harm that comes with it or regard for people in the crosshairs. They also tend to disfavor anything that actually does get people to wake up, like the discourse around the photo of that veteran carrying the US flag through tear gas: decrying the symbol of imperialism and dismissing the notion it might appeal to the people who need appealing to.

@futurebird the way I’ve thought about it: how many old tv plotlines wouldn’t work if they had one of these technologies

@futurebird there are some great turn-key devices that work out-of-the-box and reasonably durable, but most aren’t ruggedized in any way. This is maybe the closest I’ve seen, promises IP66 though I’m reluctant to test that with the set I have: https://store.rakwireless.com/products/wismesh-tag-meshtastic-gps-lora-tracker-ip66

@futurebird exactly. Cities are complex, chaotic systems relying on a collective network of individuals that emerge and flow within a space. The Line is a physical manifestation of rigid, dominating order with no interconnection. Antithetical in theory and morphology to what makes a city work.

Wild they could narrow this down. The cause of the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse was a label on a wire too close to the plug end. https://www.ntsb.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/NR20251118.aspx

@futurebird Dr Tressie McMillan Cottom gets into this in this podcast episode with Katie Tassin and to me explained it very well. The whole episode is great and covers status symbols and class. The bit about Noemi’s particular aesthetic is the later part of it. https://moneywithkatie.com/the_mwk_show/status-power-economy/TLDR is Trump values the effort to perform conformity, so they make it clear they tried. The fakery has to be apparent for that to work.

@nervous_jessica FDM indeed has gotten very good over the last five–ten years. I’m a fan of Prusa, no experience with Bambu so I can’t compare. Alas my favorite filament supplier is out of business, so looking for a good replacement as that is a big part of it.
