@neauoire Looks gorgeous 😍Guess who's just managed to compute the SHA-1 of an empty string in Uxambly? 💪

Today I updated uxnasm and asma to use a new rune, ~, to include files rather than using the word “include”.~library.talThis new syntax fits in with the rest of Uxntal and doesn't require any special parsing ✅ plus we don't have a random English lowercase word having special prominence in this language 👍️#uxn #theWorkshop

@karolbelina Perhaps without the “.Console/write” in front, 😉 but “LIT @my-value 00” is one of my favourite ways of1️⃣ saving space for a variable that's only read in one place in the code, but can be written in many places; and2️⃣ summoning the elder gods of self-modifying code and confusion 🦑

@la_ninpre @karolbelina don't worry about interrupting! This is why we have these conversations in the Fediverse 😊There's very little difference between "00" and "$1". In the middle of a Uxntal file it's all down to personal taste. At the end of the file, using only | and $ don't extend the resulting ROM, allowing labels to be placed "beyond" the end of file (which is all zeroes anyway).Of course, if I needed 0000 then $2 is quicker to type, and $3 onwards have no equivalent.

So today I learned that a circle or half-circle skirt only describes the shape that the pattern is cut into, not the fabric itself! 😅

I'm not very good when it comes to words.“Surely there's an antonym for #MicroFiction?” I pondered. My mind was fixated on the old joke about radio hams. Whenever a village was large enough to contain three radio hams, the joke was that there were always at least two amateur radio societies.I couldn't grasp the connection, until it hit me:#MicroFaction

It's been a wild 24 hours! I was away from home and just getting ready for sleep when I spotted reports that #FediVision songs were not playing on their website, https://fedivision.party, and realised there was something I could do to help 💪Between @TQ's overnight help getting me the song files, and me wrangling my servers using nothing but my phone, FediVision was back up this morning!Special shout-out to @futzle for helping me check my config was correct so we could start straight away 😊

This is also a reminder to me that leaving the house without a proper keyboard is ill advised 😅By 2024 I'll be decked out with my cyberdeck exoskeleton, satellite phone and LoRa transceiver, just in case #SysadminLife hits when visiting the greengrocers or saying hello to a neighbour

Walked into bedroom, found my beside lamp on the floor. What the —Oh yeah, I needed the space to rest my laptop somewhere cool over lunchtime, while my improvement to @tty's bunnymark was running.I have unlocked bun energy conservation, and now the bunnies will bounce indefinitely. Clearly the most important #uxn news this weekhttps://git.sr.ht/~rabbits/uxn/commit/dc65cc0f1dae77dab32f24da64ebb3151f39988a

I have a couple of dedicated servers with #Hetzner that I'm going to cancel, but Hetzner allow transfers between their customers so they could save someone money. Their specs are:• Intel i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz (8 cores),• 2 × 3 TB spinning hard drives,• 16 GiB of RAM,• €35.64 per month (including taxes). That's around €5 cheaper than their server auction right now. Is anyone interested in acquiring one or both servers?Feel free to boost: I'll delete this toot when they've been claimed.

Time to say goodbye to my October avatar (Ocatar? Avatober?) for 2022! It's not very original, obviously, but I'm quite pleased I was able to make it 😊

@flowb @bd @neauoireThe door opens, the sunlight and dust stinging your eyes. Andy lurches through, one heavy step at a time. He closes the door with a grunt, leaning his back against it to catch his breath. He looks tired, but determined. The only time you've seen more grit is on the roads in winter. He winces, then slides down until he is sitting.“It's done.”With effort, he passes the shoulder strap over his head and lets the clothespeg bag hit the floor.“Forty-seven socks, all paired up.”You try to ask him if he meant 47 pairs of socks, rather than individual ones. There's no response, no recognition in his face. Just a thousand-meter stare and bushy eyebrows.

@neauoire Today's reason is entirely practical: I'm involved in my design work and a website I rely on has stopped working on my macOS. I'm able to use a newer Firefox on OpenBSD and the website continues to work there :flan_thumbs:

@neauoire I was cycling back from Cambridge in the dark and in the middle of a cycle path was a Android phone. Locked behind a PIN, no details on it, so thought I'd take it home and keep it charged up.Back on my bike, it started ringing. But I could not find out how to answer the arsing thing. Still, I thought I would hang around to try to answer it next time.Eventually, the name of a nearby business appeared on the screen, so I found my way there. It was 2°C so after all the waiting I was frozen. It turned out that the owner never rang the phone, they just asked Google to make it sound a loud ringtone while they toured the premises. Where I found the phone was nowhere near the business.I got a similar glare when I said he could have just rang the phone and maybe someone would have answered. Understandable. Why would he trust people when he could trust Google instead?
