@xxbcTo me the main point is that modern URLs are so overloaded with tracking junk they look like line noise.@strypey @aral @torgo

@xj9To me the key to resisting centralisation is to come up with some kind of force that limits the maximum size an instance can be.But it has to be some kind of intrinsic, social or other based thing, so tech workarounds can't bypass it.Like, what stops a tree from growing without limit? And once we know how to do it on the fediverse, we need to apply it to companies too, to stop them getting too big.@bob @tursiops

@raucaoUsing types lets the compiler help you, so you don't have to keep as much in your head.

@aranI think the point is that the world-changing stuff does not get perceived as that initially, so is ignored by the big money. Hence would never get funded.@bhaugen

@clackeExcept in my experience you always made at least one typo, and the learning came from trying to get the thing to work.@drzaiusx11 @enkiv2 @Truck @alis

Modern toner cartridge: "computer says no".No option to shake it to get the last part, or print a little bit faded.Bring money, buy an original.

@danny Interesting that lisp is in the "pretty good" range on all three axes

@vfrmedia@Antanicus @wu_leeSecure Scuttlebutt is aiming to be run on user hardware only. And to be connection/communication method agnostic. So is a possible mechanism to counter this.

If chatGPT helps me write some code, what license should it have?

@mansr Yes, but we also know it just makes things up, like references to nonexistent papers. I would not put much store by that reply.I do agree that publishing under a free license makes sense though. My experience this evening trying to use it to write emacs lisp is that it is more about it giving you ideas to try than actual working code. The code did not work without a fair bit of panel beating.

github has started having annoying pop-ups as you move the mouse over the page, which do not disappear, and hide the part I want to access.

I am taking the plunge, and switching from using an #irc client to using @matrix and the bridges to the IRC rooms I frequent.

I follow my personal feed in reverse chronological order. So I always have a "place" I have got to.I would love to have this place stored on the server, so whichever client I use knows where I got to. I remember there used to be an RSS feed client that did that, possibly the one from Google, hence now gone.cc @bhaugen

@strypey as a South African I love this word, as it uses the Afrikaans word "kak"
