“There has to be regulation. This has to be applied and agreed upon ... at a global level because if there is an escape that escape will be used,” Lagarde said.Interpretation: All the worlds governments must unite to separate Bitcoin from the people. They can not be allowed to hold their own keys. There can not be an alternative financial system other than ours, or we will be left holding nothing.https://www.reuters.com/article/us-crypto-currency-ecb/ecbs-lagarde-calls-for-regulating-bitcoins-funny-business-idUSKBN29I1B1

@nvk @jb55 @pete One thing that would be lacking with everyone fully federated is the Local timeline. That was a definite help in bootstrapping I think.

@nvk @jb55 @pete @nvk, it would be a bummer if you shut down. Obviously your call, but I as well would be willing to help out if there is something that could make it workable for you.

@nvk @jb55 @pete I don't know your time frame on this, but a way to turn this into a positive would be for us to get some people together around a new instance where lightning would be incorporated. It would create a community goal as something to work toward, as well as an understanding that this instance would be shutting or scaling down.

@nic You did great! The only suggestion I am thinking is that as a counter to calls of/for US Gov banning it's citizens from Bitcoin, we should be pointing out how detrimental it would be for the US.The pro-banning crowd seems to think that there would be no negatives from a ban.I think we should get across how bad it would be. The US would be screwed, as it's wealth flowed out.Totally screwed. No government can fight economics or tech long term, and Bitcoin is both.

"Bitcoin "mining" is equivalent to the job of digging a hole and filling it back up."When you connect to a blockchain, how do you know a hacker isn't in your computer/router/isp giving you fake blocks? If you rely on a source to tell you where to connect, that blockchain is centralized. If you give me one #Bitcoin block, I know it is authentic. The cryptographic puzzle solved in this block is so hard, that there is only 1 computer system in the world that could have solved it: #Bitcoin

This is a test for proof of stake blockchains. No matter how complicated, ask the proponent "How do I know for sure I'm connected to your POS chain?"This question, cuts through all the complicated mumbo-jumbo in a POS white-paper.The only solution for POS blockchains is to have an authoritative source for connecting to the chain. There is no way to simply look at a POS block and know it is authentic. It's not inherent in the block. You are open to hackers with POS, unless you centralize.

The market relentlessly drives everything toward its cost of production. If a new gold mine is found and the production cost of gold is halved, the market price of gold will be driven toward that new price.Fiat currencies always go to zero given enough time because it's their cost of production. Proof of Stake's cost of coin production is likewise zero. The market will find a way given enough time.

@drgo Yes, agreed. Consensus violation, which would nicely be labeled consensus change. That is what the politicians are doing now with FIAT, consensus change.I would postulate a second method, consumer choice. Take a look at the attached chart. BSC came out and was much cheaper than ETH so it gained more transactions than ETH, and now Polygon which is vastly cheaper than both becomes transaction leader. The market will push toward cheaper chains with less valuation.

Any explanation as to why Bitcoin use flat-lined in July?
