@henrikjohansen @j @ParadeGrotesque 2a) But there's a caveat. The GELI metadata sits at the end of the partition, and is, therefore, not redundant. It can be lost meaning you lose the disk, and the pool. Learn how to back it up if you use GELI.I like encrypted drives, but GELI makes me nervous. I'd rather have the encryption layer inside the pool, not below.2/2https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/3206

Last night at 21:40 I typed:`dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/rsd0c bs=1m`Not only did I nuke my #OpenBSD install, but the #fde container as well. What else would you do some 17 hours before your flight to #vBSDCon to talk about "Road Warrior Disaster Recovery"?

Nonsense! Elitist claptrap is not the same thing as expert advice. Average users need strong, *well-implemented* encryption also.Any opinion about weak or broken security along the lines of "good enough for most users" is uninformed and dangerous. Ignore it. #infosec #crypto

Missed this earlier. Drew Devault notes the various entities involved in the .ORG sale to a private equity firm are 501c3s, and wrote details on how to file complaints in CA, VA, and to the IRS. 501c3's aren't trivially bought and sold.https://drewdevault.com/2019/11/29/dotorg.html

Calling in database performance problems to virtualization ops is like taking your car in for an oil leak, except in this case the lubricants team check the oil pressure gauge, declare all is well and blame the oil under the car on poor driving habits.

The number of improperly worn face masks suggests many folks wear them more out of civic duty than any real concern for contagion.Or perhaps as talismans.

Too bad it's merely a scaled-up version of the 10" K&E 4081-3 meant for classroom display. An 8-foot slide rule would have incredible accuracy. :Dhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-8-Foot-Keuffel-Esser-Co-Log-Log-Duplex-Decitrig-Slide-Rule-Model-N105/324046602138

This is how the 8-foot slide rule was marketed for use. What a great teaching tool! Half the battle in learning to use a slide-rule is learning alignment. Watching and practicing at that scale would make it so much easier.

@ParadeGrotesque @tedu Ok, but I take no responsibility for this. There's a signal modulated in the BPAE. It's directed at the central AI.
