I see. And that is the mystery. For example in Hopkinton, the Hopkinton Independent and HopNews.com are making enough money to keep going, the Independent having just hired a new reporter Mary Ellen. Yet a bit over 2 years ago Gannett shut down their former weekly in Hopkinton, The Hopkinton Town Crier. If 2 weeklys can survive profitably in Hopkinton, why couldnât Gannettâs weekly have survived? Is Gannett so bad at running local newspapers?
