I love how easy it's gotten to get unwanted posts and traffic off my server.Try to crack a silly joke, and the racists, etc, come out of the woodwork.

@RTheren The old fileserver was also BTRFS RAID5.. only reason I'm migrating is because I'm going from an HP with 12 bays to a SuperMicro with 36.The HP has been running on BTRFS RAID5/RAID5 for well over a year with zero issues. Of course, all the drives are the same size, so it's not having to half-stripe anything... that might be the difference.I don't see a reason to not trust it... it's proved itself. Now, BTRFS RAID-6... that scares me more than, well, a scary thing.

@stux Hate to say it, but it's been nothing but propaganda for decades... All "news" channels are simply entertainment based loosely on current events. It's been this way since around the time Walter Cronkite retired.

@stux It's not any worse - it's just that you don't agree with any of it during this administration, where you only disagreed with a little bit of the previous administration.Perception and Reality are two different things entirely.

@stux Society in Netherlands is quite different from society in the United States. What's normal for you and what's normal for me are two different things, as well.Much like trans people who are born with the "wrong" gender - it's not normal for them. They don't wish to be labeled by society as the gender they know they're not."Normal" is relative. What's normal for you or I isn't for someone else. What's normal for me isn't for you.

@stux I'm going to stop you there. That's not a U.S car. That's a PEV - a Penis Extension Vehicle. Those are driven by people who want others to think they work for a living, but who can't give up their creature comforts. It's a "Wannabe Wagon." An overly large expense that keeps on taking.

I am still trying to understand and grasp the mentality: "I am angry about the actions of X, so I should be allowed to destroy the property of Y and Z." where Y and Z have little to nothing to do with X.Example 1: "I am angry about Musk and Doge, so I should be allowed to destroy the cars owned by Tom, Dick, and Harriett."Example 2: "I am angry about Palestine, so I should be allowed to destroy the library at Columbia University."How does this make any sense? Could someone explain it?If the musk haters were destroying musk's personal vehicles, I could see my way to understanding at least part of it, but destroying the private property of someone who bought a Tesla? Wrong target....unless I'm missing something?

@wjmaggosOddly, most of the people on the internet who have "done their own research" do exactly the same thing. You just called someone out for being just as human as almost everyone else...

@stux And here in the US it's the opposite. Most of the violence committed recently has been performed by the left against the right. No, the left here doesn't quote Hitler - that would be too on-the-nose - but they do act like fascists while calling everyone who opposes them fascists. They'll knowingly speak untruths on national television and then blame the right for "censoring" them... while their followers cheer for them, not realizing/remembering that they cheered for censorship not too long ago.Rosanne's show (and career) was cancelled over a social media post.. Disney suspended the role of a former female wrestler in "The Mandalorian" because of a social media post. There was no outrage then... but there is outrage for Kimmel. It's not the left. It's not the right. It's stupid/insane people.Again and Again.

@snarkweekAnti-intellectualism and the eagerness to make assumptions about someone in order to dismiss them are definitely among the reasons why we can't have nice things. But, hey, it's your echo chamber. Ring it however you like. @64bithero @stux

This is weird...Let's be fair - most of you who I see here on Mastodon lean Left, and most of those who lean Left are opposed to violence, especially when it comes from the Right.Given the last few years - the Trump shooting, the shooting in Utah which killed a famous right-leaning "leader", and the example in the accompanying link, I've got to wonder - is it that both the Left (Democrats, specifically) and the Right (Republicans, specifically) are overly violent, or is it that a few bad actors are making a bad name for the rest of that group with "the other team"?Seriously, this kind of BS has to stop. Violence is only the answer when defending against actual physical violence. Just Stop.https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/waterford-man-charged-death-threats-eradicate-oakland-county-gop-kill-youth-chair

@wjmaggos The fact that most of my left leaning "friends" shunned me back during the Obama years for my predictions (all of which came to fruition) and have never taken me back speaks volumes to this: they exclude people with dissenting opinions, all the while calling anyone with a dissenting opinion a "fascist".You're absolutely correct - if we don't discuss, respectfully, the issues of the day, we'll never learn anything about anything.I don't lean Right. I don't lean Left. I'm pretty Center. I'm a Former-Active-Duty United States Marine, and I'd pick up arms again to defend every citizen's right to be equal - LGBTQ+ rights, equal opportunity for everyone regardless of skin color, creed, orientation, etc... Yes, even my broken ass would still fight to protect someone's right to equality in this country. It's a common meme, but I really REALLY do want to protect the right of my queer neighbors to protect their children and their grow-op with whatever firearms they choose without harassment from "law enforcement", but I'm also far from believing ACAB. Maybe I'm a unicorn? I dunno. I firmly believe we can make more progress and remove more strife and stress by discussing issues rather than fighting about them. I also believe, as previously stated, that violence is never the answer EXCEPT in self-defense or defense of others/property.Shooting at, killing, beating, etc, others solves nothing. I'm tired of it. We need to use our brains rather than our guts to resolve problems.Sadly, it seems that I'm in the minority in that opinion, if Social Media is the measure.

@stux Aren't you one of the people who decried Russian interference in US politics? If so, why are you, right now, doing exactly what you were made about Russia doing?I'm certain there's more information out there than what the rest of us know.. I, for one, am not ready to make snap judgements.
