ℹ️ If you were having trouble connecting to FLOSS.social earlier, it wasn't just you.A while ago, our domain registrar and DNS changed to a new provider, with no outage expected. Indeed, after the change, testing across a large number of global online testing tools, indicated good hostname resolution from pulling from our new nameservers.However, a (most likely) small proportion of users had trouble with DNS resolution of our hostnames ... 1/2

⚠️ As with many other instances, we have temporarily limited mastodon.social due to a high volume of spam originating there right now.The limit will be in place for 24h after which we'll re-evaluate their ability to moderate their instance.You can still interact with anyone from there who you follow as if nothing changed. ℹ️ Update: 24 hours have passed and there has been no public information from the leadership of mastodon.social on any plans to prevent future abuse.They have enabled the "request an account" feature to prevent automatic signups. While this is good, it is unclear if this is only a temporary action. Removing it would not prevent future spam.Therefore we are extending our limits on the domain until at least Monday in hopes a prevention strategy is announced by then.#MastoAdmin #Mastodon

@OddDev Thanks for reporting; this has been fixed.There is a small number of hashtags that trended early in the history of the "trending hashtags", and not since then, that had a misconfiguration applied to them some years ago.Because Mastodon has still not improved the trending hashtags admin feature since then, there are no admin tools to manage hashtags that aren't trending, so the only way we can (quickly) resolve this scenario is once they are discovered and reported.

@OddDev And to clarify #NoAFD is also fixed. Here's a screenshot that shows its prior state as not having yet been manually reviewed to be included in our trending list (all hashtags with this misconfiguration state appear this way until intervention).
