What up crackers, admin speaking. Cawfee Club has been updated to the latest released versions of Pleroma backend and frontend. The main changes are:- quote posts- custom emoji reactions- frontend decoupled from backend -> more frequent updates possible- miscellaneous little frontend fixes and changesAll changes should be listed here.https://pleroma.social/announcements/2024/07/17/pleroma-major-release-2.7.0/I find the quote posts quite cringe, but disabling them doesn't seem possible out of the box. Anyway, incoming quote posts should render correctly now. The same goes for custom emoji reactions - as were a thing on other instances for some time now, you might have previously received a few. You should be able to find them when scrolling through your posts... or not, I'm not sure.As for the frontend tweaks... I can't put my finger on it, but some things feel off. I think that most links in the default theme have turned cyan - except for the sidebar, where they are black now. We'll probably get used to it as always.Incidentally, some 12 GB of disk space got freed when running database migrations after the update. I don't know how, I'd rather not know, but it should prevent most random hours-long crashes for a few weeks or months.Sorry for putting this off for months, and as always, please let me know if you find some new bugs. I know we already had some bugs around following people on other instances, I wonder if that's going to be fixed now.As my next act, I'll probably add a bunch of celebratory emoji. I've been bookmarking posts with cool emoji for months now, they're in my sights. Then there's going to be a small revision of the rules. The ones we have now have been in effect since the beginning, and in order to grow, they'll need to be less vague. They're still the same in spirit and if you didn't get warned/banned yet, you're most likely safe, I just wanted to clarify some edge cases.I guess that's it. Good night!

mostr.pub has been defederated because of the random AI chatbot mentions. It will stay that way until someone manages to convince me there's anything of value.

Updated backend to 2.8.0! Bugs regarding stuck federation and stuck follow requests should now be fixed. If some of your follow requests didn't work before, try cancelling them and following again. This time it should work. Also Pleroma Light is now the default theme. With the buggy sharp corners that the UI now has, it looks better than the Bird theme. I think that the color scheme also fits our background image pretty well.

CAWFEE WILL BE DOWN THIS SATURDAYI'll turn it off on 09:00 UTC so that Americans have enough time to enjoy Friday Night. But the database needs some serious maintenance. Remote posts older than 2023 will also be deleted to reclaim space.Maybe this Sunday as well. I don't know how long it will take.

One two. One two. Is this thing on?*ahem*Brothers, xisters, welcome back. As you probably know, Cawfee Club has unprecedently been down for a month. What started as a weekend maintenance, kept dragging on and after a week or two, I became increasingly despondent and my mental state spiraled downwards. It was pretty much this feedback loop when the longer the instance was down, the less I felt like fixing things. So yeah, you could say it's my fault.I could apologize endlessly, but for now, just seeing the levels of activity on here so high after only a few hours moves me beyond words. I really love you guys, and I missed you a lot.A thorough explanation will come later. For now though, there's a particularly vile bit of disinformation I have to debunk - this downtime was NOT caused by updating Pleroma. I did not update Pleroma. I'm looking at you, hakui. That being said, we'll be federating in whitelist mode for at least a day or two so that the server is not overloaded by catching up on too many posts. I'm open to adding any instances to the whitelist, just tell me the domains in response to this post.

@vokainen099 @r Sure.>How much space did it save in the end?If I remember correctly, 34 GB. The objects table got pretty much halved. As for activities, only about 2 GB got removed after 16 hours of running it on my laptop. When it ran directly on Cawfee for weeks, it was probably even less, but that's the throttled block storage for ya.Of course you'll have to squash/repack afterwards to reclaim the space.>Did you also pass the --prune-orphaned-activities argument?Yeah. That's the slow part. The queries have multiple joins, phnt said it can't really be done any other way. But years ago when only Akkoma had this, I took their commits and it took less than a day. (https://info.cawfee.club/soti-2024-04.html) The Pleroma implementation is different. It didn't even get to the second query.

@anokasion Oh hey. Of course I remember, I was wondering where you went. (Also basadeskaiser. Do you guys still talk? I don't know where he is.)>only for a short period, years ago, the "forgot password" option really workedIt never worked. The dialog was there but since Cawfee doesn't have configured email, it basically did nothing. So I explicitly hid it.Anyway, sending the reset links in DM.

Hey. During the weekend, I ran the numbers in order to find out what are the top (Mastodon) instances that have us blocked, solely in order to block off some deaf driftwood clogging our pipes. I was surprised to see that even mastodon.social, the flagship, was just around 1% of objects created in the database in the last few months. So there we go, I'm opening up federating with all instances (that we didn't block before). The additional load shouldn't be too high, but I'll keep an eye on it.mastodon.social is getting blocked anyway lol.During the last few weeks (since getting Cawfee back up), I also monitored the Known Network timeline a little and it's pretty evident that poa.st and misskey.io are kind of dominant there. So for the sake of wolesome diversity, those two instances are getting removed from the Known Network. No hard feelings against anyone there, you can still follow the accounts etc. It's mostly a gut feeling. (Maybe it will slow down the influx in unexpected ways, although I wouldn't bet on it.)
