Is this the unravelling of @CNET?It was one of the first major online publications I used to properly geek out over. @leo @CNET @jeffjarvis it feels so unnecessary. There’s a rock solid affiliate marketing model for review sites that’s locked up by places like WireCutter. They just had to replicate that. This is like Richard Gere’s character in the beginning of Pretty Woman, the rich guy who buys businesses to break them.Which in this metaphor would make CNET, Julia Roberts the brilliant woman forced by life to become a sex worker.

@science_quotes wow. Just wow. I’m no scientist, but I know for a fact that peer review is the foundation of scientific enquiry. It’s the whole basis of verification and validation of replicable results. It’s what makes science…science, else anybody would claim anything, like ‘the earth is flat’ or that ‘dihydrogen monoxide’ is lethal🤣

@vriska the jerks, the trolls, the bullies and the unhinged sociopaths typically turn up later. Then too you can actively block, mute and so forth. I had a wonderfully supportive community over at the (now) Bad Place. The great thing about the fediverse is that no billionaire can buy and immediately displace us, which is pretty sweet ☺️

@leo @cathygellis you should check out BBC iPlayer periodically. Inspector Montalbano has been on there for ages. It also has many other great shows and the documentaries, omg the documentaries are exceptionally excellent, particularly the Horizon series. Then there’s the Arena series which did a brooding celebration of T. S. Elliot last year and Ulysses by James Joyce that was a right romp. Tons of art docs too.
