@Vivaldi @stux I just started using vivaldi this week, on a Mac, an iPhone, and a raspberry pi 5/Ubuntu. It works better than Firefox for some sites (like Kobo books). I’m liking it.

@futurebird Looking up recipes the other day (as one does before Thanksgiving) I realized that most of the "cooking sites" have a lot of AI involvement. So I do a bit more work to get advice from real people. I guess the idea is, put up a site, let the AI write it, you get some pennies when people click on it?

@futurebird I'm more and more bored with action. Some of these door stop novels ... Currently reading Nicola Griffith's "Spear". So far it's all about the character. There are action scenes, very effective and not long.

@futurebird just piling on here: I would have defined it as your Python does (the integer part). I just asked Common Lisp what it does (my current learn-a-computer-language hobby) and it doesn't pre-define an integer function. The manual says "The ceiling, floor, round and truncate functions convert floating point or rational numbers to integers".

@jwz @piepants that’s what happened to me: paid for a runbox address, couldn’t buy things from some websites, couldn’t communicate reliably with some attorneys and relatives when it mattered. Back to gmail. There’s a stink of wrong here, maybe even illegal.

@tomjennings @tomtom @jwz @piepants Perhaps I should elaborate. A couple of websites counted my runbox address as problematic and wouldn't do the transaction. One was an enormous clothing company, the other a supplier of Raspberry Pi and similar things. The "family and attorneys" thing was about interacting with Outlook, Roadrunner, an attorney's domain, ... Basically people said they didn't get my email. Too hard to get Runbox to change to play nice with all these providers.

@futurebird I wondered, when one of our cats was around 19 yo, whether two things went together: her ears didn't move around any more, and, I think she was deaf.

@futurebird You certainly can just go and watch. Coney Island will be quite (quite) crowded. Some people run in and run out. I've heard the advice to be careful. The water is warmer than it could be:https://shallweswim.today/nycbut it will still be shocking to get in. I myself would walk in slowly. (I won't be there, just sayin' ...) I would plan on getting out more or less immediately. (FWIW I swim a lot, and sometimes at Brighton, and cold scares me.) Bring a thermos of something hot.

@VCP @carrideen @futurebird an NYC puzzle: posh person on the 4-5-6 or Q with a large water bottle (one of those half-gallon things). What do they do when they drink the water?A different and more universal puzzle: people with water bottles at the pool.

@futurebird No wasps. A "monster in a cave" fantasy novel. Queerness, disability, generational trauma. Protagonist avoids building a nest in anyone. And a very large bear named Blueberry.
