@scottjenson PLEASE publish this as a patch to AOSP, so Android derivatives can use it if they want! The only problem I can see is, how do you paste without also deleting something? Can you bring up the menu while not having anything selected?PS: I use AnySoftKeyboard, which can be configured to have left and right arrow keys. I used them several times while composing this post!

@alexelcu Unless I'm very much mistaken on the facts, describing these "categories" as not "your data" is also pretty disingenuous. It is literally data, and it is determined by which sites you visit. You can say that it's a more general/coarse-grained form of data, but it's still your behavioural data.

@mjg59 Is it an oversimplification for me to say that null-terminated strings were a mistake? Because it really seems like null-terminated strings were a mistake.

@mjg59 Wait. Yes it's an oversimplification, or yes they were a mistake?

@mjg59 Couldn't you build that into the language relatively easily? E.g. if strings are immutable in the language, then any writing to a string variable compiles into: calculate the string length + tag length, make a sys call to allocate that amount and throw an exception if the call fails, then write the bytes into that chunk of memory.

@mjg59 Then you've got some other poor quality bounds checking. Overriding a string length tag isn't worse than overwriting anything else, is it? AFAIK that's essentially random, chaotically determined by the language, the compiler, and the program.

@mjg59 I know it doesn't actually matter, but: whoever wrote that statement absolutely does not understand how ampersands work in English :blobcatfacepalm:.

@mjg59 Does anyone know the facts about the Microsoft thing? With a few minutes on the FSFE's and SFC's websites, I found no mention of them. This especially weird when you consider that Red Hat and Google are prominently listed as big donors to FSFE and SFC respectively. Why didn't the guy name those companies instead?

@element If the only purpose of the CLA is to allow you to sell exceptions, then you should write a CLA that only gives permission to do that. The Apache one is much broader.
