@wjmaggos That seems like a reasonable thought process. The "Max" part has always made me think of Cinemax, which is even more edgy.

@Polychrome I'm glad they figured this out, because I like Q. But after a Crusher-centric season, I really wanted Wesley to show up again.

I love that there is experimentation going on around web interfaces for #Mastodon. So far I've used:⭐ https://elk.zone is a familiar old friend for former Twitter users, with great polish and some excellent color scheme customization.⭐ https://phanpy.social has an "opinionated" UI that groups frequently boosted posts, handles nested threads nicely, and is my current go-to for catching up when I've been away for a while. What other web UIs am I missing out on?

I’d only been using https://phanpy.social in the browser. It is even prettier and more usable when saved to your Home Screen.

I don’t know how people walk around with cracked screens forever. This is the first iPhone screen I have cracked and it is causing me an unreasonable amount of anxiety.

I was walking on the beach this morning near low tide, and I came across three sets of six equally-sized holes in almost perfectly straight lines. Theories?

Saving this record of the Trump indictment like my grandparents saved historic newspapers. Someday this historic jpg will clutter up my grandchildren’s closets.

I teach AP US Government. I’ve never seen polling showing Congress this out of touch across the board. It’s wild.#Palestine

It’s useful to note that this survey was a little over three weeks ago. Since then, support for a ceasefire has increased along with support for the US to be a neutral arbiter in the region. https://www.reuters.com/world/us-public-support-israel-drops-majority-backs-ceasefire-reutersipsos-2023-11-15/

@freedomtux Thanks for the reading recommendation. That looks really interesting. One more for the reading pile. Not having read his book, I’ll just note that the ideological capture appears to be very quick and surprisingly complete.

@micahflee Kissinger grumbled, “If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic.” He added: “Any people who has been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong.”https://forward.com/culture/470300/kissinger-at-100-if-it-were-not-for-the-accident-of-my-birth-i-would-be/

There’s something about the reply culture in the fediverse, particularly folks running misskey, that seems to trend toward bombing in out of nowhere with unkind or condescending comments. Is that a function of the software design, or the culture of misskey users, or… ?

How many days do I give a newsletter to move off Substack before I unsubscribe?I want to keep hearing from these folks, but not if they're going to choose to stay in the Nazi bar.

@sillygwailo Having scraped together a couple million in 2023 after literally decades of actual work doesn't represent the same policy failure as billionaires.

Paramount+ is now entirely useless if you use a pihole to block New Relic, Doubleclick, and Braze. You literally can't watch the shows you paid for without providing minute-by-minute viewership data to multiple ad platforms.#enshitification

The problem with American business is that today’s assassination made them think “I need more security,” not “how do I make fewer people want me dead?”

Clifford Cash: "Someone once said to me, 'you were born for this moment,' and I said 'bullshit' because no one was born for this moment—no human being was born to claw their dignity out of the clenched fists of wannabe kings."
