I think that they should spend the money to send our road engineers to the Netherlands to learn how to build safe infrastructure rather than trying to teach motorists to stop killing pedestrians and cyclists.

@amerika So we should just accept being maimed and murdered because governments won't build cities for people rather than lethal machines?

@amerika Yes it is the job of government to do things for us. We pay taxes. It is the job of municipal governments to make cities livable for people. My city and the other cities in the region are already investing in good cycling infrastructure. One only has to look at the Netherlands to see what is possible when cities build walkable and cyclable streets that are good for people and retail businesses.

@amerika It was political decisions to design cities around cars that forced people to choose cars. It wasn't inevitable. The Netherlands built their cities around the car in the 1950s and 60s, just like North America. In the 1970s, people got fed up with the number of children being killed by these death machines, and they collectively decided to go in a different direction. Cities like Amsterdam look very different than they did in the '70s because people made the political decision to change.
