How the billionaire hoarders prevent everyone else from having nice things. Post World War II, a single income of a factory worker could support a family, own a house, drive two cars, and afforded vacations. Today most families with two parents working full time can barely make ends meet. 201 million Americans (almost 60%) live in poverty where a minimal quality of life is out of reach. Compare this to 5% in Italy and 11% in Japan. https://newrepublic.com/article/195862/billionaire-hoarders-wealthy-biggest-threat #oligarchs

@Nonilex It's infuriating that this country elected a president completely incapable of empathy. When that is probably the number one quality a president actually needs.

@stux I had no idea games had gotten this artistic with their backgrounds. These are amazing.

@stux That’s what I mean, I haven’t played games since Descent, so it blows my mind they look this good!

@wjmaggos @fedijedi I was just going on about this last night. People are going to bluesky because there are more people there right now talking about a particular topic and everyone wants to be 'in the room where all the action is.' And I don't want to sound like a sanctimonious asshole, but the inevitable outcome of Bluesky is its eventual enshittification. It's a billionaire owned company that will eventually need to make money. Guess I'll be seeing everyone back here in a few short years…

@wjmaggos @fedijedi I would love it if that is the case. Forgive me if I'm not as optimistic. The only reason billionaires own things is to make money. (And I do agree that your original argument still stands.)

The #tech #oligarchs do not have our best interests in mind. "Instead of democracy, we will have basically tech feudalism — fiefdoms run by tech corporations. They're pretty explicit about this point."https://futurism.com/billionaires-corporate-dictatorship

@davidrevoy Another possibility with option B would be to have King Neptune commenting along the lines of “Good Grief! Look at the time. And what are your plans for monetizing this anyway!?"

@Strandjunker This entire administration acts like it's permanent. So no one should be surprised when 2028 rolls around and they start finding ways to delay / cancel elections.

@futurebird There are examples of positive social media educational offerings out there. A friend of mine started https://thesocialinstitute.com/ and it’s been very successful.

@ElleGray I dunno, I think this is good marketing. Slightly inappropriate, breaks through, and grabs attention. Is it questionable? Sure, but we all stopped and noticed it which is more than I can say for 90% of ads (including mine).

@futurebird @5ciFiGirl obfuscation seems to be the entire purpose. “See, what I did really wasn’t that bad because it doesn’t sound like anything real when I say it with jargon.”

Holy smokes! @pluralistic is really good at cutting through the bullshit and explaining things very simply. He's surfaced something today that I've always suspected, but never quite been able to put my finger on. 97% of the finance sector is useless gambling and creates nothing of value. It's what got us the housing bubble in 2008 and what's inflating the current AI bubble. This is a must-read: https://pluralistic.net/2025/12/18/self-licking-ice-cream-cone/#job-creators

We could do away with 97% of financial trading and sure, a lot of people would lose their jobs (but not too many) and the world wouldn't be any worse off for it. There would be less superyachts and fewer skyscrapers, but so what?

Y’all, please continue to boost good posts you see. I’ve realized that almost all of my discovery of new (to me) accounts on Mastodon comes from when you boost something, I like it, and click through to the original poster to check them out and end up following them.
